The Safety Coordinator will directly assist the Safety Support Specialist with the Port Manatee facilities environmental, health and safety (EH & S) activities.
This position performs work involving the implementation and monitoring of new or established environmental, health and safety programs and a variety of associated tasks.
This position will also be responsible for administering classroom training in EH & S
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Assists the Safety Support Specialist with the following:-
1. Implements, audits and updates EH&S programs.
2. Develops and implements procedures and programs to meet the specific safety needs of the plant.
3. Ensures that EH&S programs are in compliance with all corporate standards and regulatory requirements. Also prepares and maintains all forms/records as required to meet compliance requirements.
4. Coordinates safety activities of managers and supervisors to ensure effective and consistent implementation of safety activities throughout the plant.
5. Interacts with supervisors and shop personnel in order to identify and correct unsafe conditions or work practices.
6. Identifies unsafe conditions and practices, recommending appropriate corrective action.
7. Maintains contact with outside organizations such as corporate industrial hygienists, safety and health specialists, environmental professionals, fire departments and rescue teams in order to assure information exchange and mutual assistance.
8. Participates in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of EH&S program developments.
9. Implement a high quality Training Program which supports plant and business objectives, and which meets individual needs and regulatory requirements.
10. Coordinate Safety training priorities with facility Training Coordinator and LSO to ensure that all training is offered when scheduled/required, including new hire orientation and basic training.
11. Maintain and enhance monthly/quarterly/yearly safety statistics.
12. Implement computer based training (CBT) where feasible for regulatory, company operations, quality, and department specific training.
13. Perform classroom training of salaried exempt, salaried non-exempt, and hourly personnel as qualified and required.
14. Maintain and improve content of Touch Screen Kiosks.
15. Perform administrative duties for the Safety Support Specialist.
16. This position involves support on off-shifts.
A pre-placement Fit for Duty Evaluation is required for this assignment.
Worker will be required to occasionally lift / carry up to 35 lbs. (Team pulls together when off loading empty drums, transferring hoses and raw material bags.)
Worker will be required to occasionally bend/stoop, squat, crawl/kneel, climb, reach above shoulder, push/pull.
Worker will be required to work from heights, work with/around moving machinery.
Worker will be exposed to changes in temperature/humidity and wear protective equipment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Should be a graduate of a 2 or 4 year degree program from an accredited college or university, and/or equivalent work experience.
Should have 1-3 years of progressively Environmental, Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing environment and strong knowledge of EH&S principles, practices, regulations and codes: including 29 CFR 1910, EPCRA 313 and RCRA compliance.
Assignment hours:
Normal hours are 4:00 pm 12.30 am - 30 minutes for lunch; however, requires some flexibility as other possible off-shift coverage may be required for training etc.
