JOB SUMMARY
The ideal EH&S Specialist job candidate is motivated to eliminate, prevent, or reduce the occurrence of safety, health, and environmental hazards at the facility. The candidate is expected to promote and improve a workplace culture that embraces injury prevention and environmental responsibility in support of the company's EH&S programs and goals. This position reports to the EH&S Manager and is responsible for overseeing facility safety and environmental compliance programs to ensure safe and environmentally-responsible work environment.
The successful candidate would develop safety procedures, protocols, and initiatives to improve workplace safety through a behavior-based safety approach focusing on prevention. The candidate would likewise develop and implement best environmental practices, projects, and programs to meet ISO 14001 objectives and regulatory agency compliance requirements. Environmental responsibilities include air permit and air quality rule requirements, storm water pollution prevention, hazardous waste program oversight and manifest tracking, and SDS management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
" Investigates workplace accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions/acts to identify root causes and trends. Coordinates the development and implementation of corrective action plans to resolve identified hazards.
" Requires expertise in standard manufacturing safety programs including machine guarding, lock out / tag out, forklift operations, PPE and other areas of high risk exposures.
" Stays current on all federal, state, and local safety, health, and environmental regulations.
" Writes and revises EH&S procedures, protocols, and guidance to ensure facility compliance with regulations or company directives. Communicates these to employees effectively.
" Assists with EH&S training efforts, including training preparation, attendance tracking, and scheduling coordination.
" Manages sourcing and dispensing of PPE and other safety equipment as needed.
" Helps conduct EH&S Champion committee meetings by inviting members, conducting updates and recaps of issues being tracked, coordinating activities, and empowering members to develop and achieve specific safety and environmental goals and objectives.
" Helps oversee the facility's ISO 14001 efforts and promotes on-site sustainability and recycling programs
" Develops emergency preparedness capabilities for appropriate responses to industrial accidents and injuries, medical emergencies, and hazardous materials releases in coordination with facility personnel, contracted specialists, and outside responders.
" Demonstrates competency in Job Hazard Analysis, accident investigation, root cause analysis and statistical analysis of injury trends.
" Hosts agency inspections and resolves any identified issues as needed to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
" Conducts ongoing safety initiatives including Leadership Safety Walks, Safe Observation Days, and Safety Stand Downs rewarded by the company's Safety Star Program.
" Inspects and audits operations to independently identify and assess potential safety and environmental hazards, and assists with EH&S inspections conducted by area supervisors.
" Cultivate employee commitment to a high performance culture.
" Helps complete required agency and corporate reports and submittals including monthly EH&S Reports, Environmental Metrics Data reports, etc. Works with Facilities to ensure timely and compliant pickup of hazardous waste for disposal.
" Helps monitors site's environmental sustainability metrics towards reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, reducing waste generated on site and boosting diversion from landfill/incineration to achieve targets and objectives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
" Strong and effective interpersonal communication and presentation skills
" Ability to effectively interact with all levels of organizational personnel
" Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute effectively, management systems experience
" Experience developing safety programs including working with high performance teams to successfully implement initiatives, and the ability to implement behavior-based safety programs
" Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
" Effective organizational capabilities
" Analytical - Must be able to drive to root cause corrections
" Solid EH&S training experience.
