Duties:
The Infection Preventionist works closely and collaboratively with the Manager of Infection Prevention & Control, the Medical Director of Infectious Disease, members of the Infection Prevention team and Infection Control Committee.

o Collaborates with other leaders and colleagues to align IP program goals with the strategic goals of the organization

Professional Stewardship
o Ensures that measures are in place for performing evidence-based practices, emphasizing performance expectations, and communicating expectations and methods for achieving health care system IPC goals and results
o Quantifies costs and savings of IPC programs, practices, and products, and demonstrates understanding of quality incentive reimbursement models.
o Works with IPs to identify critical inputs to product/service decisions
o Conducts conversations with product/equipment representatives to obtain costs for products/services
o Addresses population health concerns during the annual risk assessment process, taking into account the contextual demographics and global implications.
o Facilitates communication between facilities and collaborates for safe transfer and provision of care within other practice settings.
o Advocates for realistic, incremental changes that meet the needs of patients, visitors, staff, and the IPC program.
Quality Improvement:
o Implements stable processes, reduces variation, and improves outcomes to establish a culture of safe and quality care.
o Identifies required information to conduct a basic risk assessment, participates in and provides input into developing risk reduction strategies based on the risk.
o Conducts and organizes a basic literature search to review and analyze ideas to include in the risk reduction strategies.
o Implements Performance Improvement strategies; recognizes when to lead or facilitate a team and when to be a team member.
o Examines risk factors and vulnerabilities, prioritizes and implements evidence-based prevention strategies that contribute to patient and staff safety
o Uses proactive and reactive approaches to conduct surveillance, identify infection risks, implement infection interventions, and mitigate risks
o Conducts surveillance and identifies nationally recognized surveillance and/or outbreak definitions relevant to Client programs.
o Performs basic statistical techniques and formulas to analyze data.
Education:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in health related field and/or equivalent combination of experience/training required.Education Notes: Masters Degree in health-related field preferred. Must have completed advanced hospital epidemiology course within 1 year of hire..
Minimum Experience: Minimum 2 years recent clinical experience, preferably in an academic medical center.
License Required: Current Registered Nurse license (RN) or comparable license in a related health care field (such as CLS/MT(ASC), D.P.M., M.D.)
Certification Required: Must successfully obtain Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology. within two years of hire.

Demonstrates knowledge of disinfection and sterilization practices used in all settings
Familiar with the clinical and operational issues in infection control, including policies, regulatory requirements, patient care and related nursing issues, progressing to advanced knowledge of the clinical and operational issues in infection control, including policies, regulatory requirements, surveillance and investigation methodologies, data collection, epidemiology, microbiology, patient care, and related nursing issues.. Technical Knowledge:
Competency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
Ability to manipulate and extract database information, and basic descriptive statistics e.g., Chi square, frequency analysis; preferably knowledgeable about multi-modal communications strategies (e.g., applications use, voicemail, text, social media).
Prior experience with electronic health records systems; prefer experience with EPIC and the ICON Infection Prevention module.

Schedule Notes: Monday to Friday position regular business hours. Certification in Infection Control would be required with minimum 3-5 years or more experience. Expertise in sterile processing and in the operating room would be a plus!
