Senior Developer

Business Comparison was formed in 2014 to become the comparison site for British businesses. Despite a multi-million P&L, it remains small, agile, and growing at a rapid pace with significant backing to fulfil its ambitions. In 2021, Business Comparison was acquired by one of its partners, the Bionic Group, given their closely aligned ethos of supporting the UK’s SME. This deal provided the necessary investment and support for Business Comparison to now realise its ambitions. 

Business Comparison is here to make being in business easier, by matching our customers with the best solution for their individual needs. We are providing new and innovative ways to help businesses in the UK to become the market leader of a new segment, with the mid-term potential for international expansion of our solution. As a result, we're looking to achieve three-figure growth over the next three years.  

We’re seeking an exceptionally talented Senior Developer to join our team. 

What we're looking for: 

Ideally, you’ll have around 6 years’ experience in web development, specialising in Laravel. 

As a small agile business – all our stakeholders have a massive impact and say in the direction we head; we implore for feedback and creativity within the team. 

As the Senior Developer you’ll complete both daily tasks and contribute to longer-term projects and goals. You’ll be working closely and liaising with stakeholders regularly so will be expected to manage your workload and time effectively.   

Required skills: 

• Expert knowledge of Laravel (TALL Stack) and PHP 8 

• Extensive knowledge of MySQL and query optimisation 

• Experience in AWS Cloud services and containerisation 

• Apache2 and LSWS 

• Creating and implementing API Restful services and integrations 

• Integration and set-up of EventBridge events 

• At least one front-end framework (React or Vue preferably) 

• CI/CD integration and building (utilising GitHub Actions) 

• Agile/Scrum methodology 

• Git functionality and documentation 

• Pre-processing with SCSS 

• Creating unit tests with PHPUnit & Jest 

• Comprehensive code reviewing and testing 

• Redis caching 

Desirable skills: 

• Statamic CMS 

• Hotjar set-up and integrations 

• Snyk integration and maintenance 

• Bugsnag usage and fixing 

• Node.js building 

• People Management experience 

Interview process 

• Initial conversation with one of our Talent Acquisition Team 

• 1st stage – 30-minute meeting with the Hiring Manager  

• 2nd stage – Technical assessment 

• Final stage – 1 hour interview with some of the wider stakeholders to the role
