We are Aspire Living & Learning, a non-profit human services agency making a meaningful difference in the lives of adults and children with autism and other disabilities.

School Hours: M-F 7:00a-3:00p (Part-time and full-time available!)

Salary range for this position is $30 - $38 per hour

Aspire Living & Learning is currently seeking a Physical Education Teacher to work out of one of our Approved Private Special Education Programs (ALL Academy) in Stamford, Naugatuck, and/or Trumbull, CT, providing services to children who have been outplaced to our program due to social, behavioral, and/or academic needs.

The Physical Education Teacher at Aspire Living & Learning plays a vital role in developing and providing specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with autism spectrum disorders, pervasive developmental disabilities, and a variety of other disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students' fine and gross motor skills to identify individual strengths and areas needing attention in physical education.
  • Design a curriculum focused on physical activity, human movement, fitness, responsible behavior, and healthy lifestyle choices, ensuring alignment with CT SDE guidelines.
  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment where students demonstrate responsible personal and social behaviors during physical activity and health lessons.
  • Monitor and document each student's progress through report cards, providing additional progress monitoring for IEPs as needed.
  • Prepare and update progress reports for PPT meetings as requested by the Director of Education, team members, LEA, DCF, or parents.
  • Cultivate a positive and productive workplace atmosphere to enhance team morale and productivity.
  • Participate in and complete training sessions as delegated by management to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the role.
  • Conduct training as required and assigned.
  • Perform any additional job responsibilities assigned by supervisors or team leaders to support the organization's smooth operation.
  • Accept reassignment as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree
  • CT. Certification #044 Physical Education and/or #043 Health PK-12 preferred
  • Knowledge of Physical Education standards and curriculum
  • Must have satisfactory background checks
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record

Working Conditions:

As a PE Teacher dedicated to supporting children in the school setting, you'll find yourself immersed in a dynamic and impactful environment. Here's what you can expect regarding working conditions:

  • Primary work is done within the school gymnasium however it is expected that staff will monitor/work with students during indoor/outdoor physical activities (playground/gym); support students during academic, related service (Speech, OT, PT), and behavioral programming.
  • This role may encounter challenging behaviors and situations, requiring patience, empathy, and effective behavior management strategies and the ability to perform Physical Management Techniques (PMT) as needed.
  • Ability to handle physical aspects of job, including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking or standing for periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • May be required to travel.
