Process Engineer

• We are the engineering bridge between development and manufacturing for the integration of product, process, quality, systems, and data.
• Engineering partner with Research, Development, and business to advance new product introduction (NPI) and process development from early-stage innovation to scaleup for manufacturing.
• Leverage technical skills and deploy innovation tools & methodologies to accelerate learning cycles and build fundamental understanding for materials processing and product capability.
• Integrate and develop product, process, data, and systems to enable new product programs to manage and deliver customer samples and build manufacturing infrastructure.
• Use situational assessment to identify and close gaps in process design & scaling, demonstrating capability, sample operations, integration of product & quality, integration of process & equipment, integration of process & metrology, and stabilizing and transferring processes.
• Project leadership including ownership for development and execution of project plan and timeline management.
• Identify, develop, and implement novel solution paths aimed at enabling low-cost manufacturing processes.
• Improve path to manufacturing success in cost, quality, yields, cycle time, and safety by designing robust processes and systems to streamline the transition from development to production and evaluating new materials, new equipment, or new process parameters.
• Provide process design requirements to equipment design and work closely with mechanical and machine engineers to specify, design, startup and validate new process equipment.
• Understand product at appropriate depth to establish sample operations, process improvements and databased decisions for quality and customer requirements.
• Work in cross functional teams usually involving other groups in Research, Manufacturing Technology and Engineering (MTE) or Development.
• Works with process and product team in Advanced Optics division to stabilize process es and advance fundamental understanding of novel glass making.
• Lead or support Mechanistic/hypothesis-based troubleshooting (MEE) or root cause analysis (RCA) to understand process issues or part defects, document a plan including design of experiments and work with the team to execute and draw conclusions from results.
• Lead or support MEE for identified equipment issues, develop a hypothesis tree, establish, and execute a plan as needed.
• Leverage quality architecture tools to determine required measurements, validate through MSA or Gauge R&R and standardize measurement processes.
• Leverage and champion technical and operational readiness through use of innovation tools, principles of process control and process discipline, new product introduction methodology and technology transfer to manufacturing.

• Strong technical process engineering skills and experience, including PCPD, DOE, Data Analysis, MSA, Quality Architecture.
• Customer oriented and flexible to manage uncertainty and change.
• Mechanical aptitude/equipment understanding.
• Minimum of BS in mechanical, electrical, chemical, materials, or ceramic engineering (materials background preferred).
• 3+ years’ experience in development/engineering/manufacturing.

• Ceramic materials and processing experience.
• Prior experience in Research, Development, manufacturing, or Innovation.
• Technology transfer experience, receiving process and/or product from Development and delivering to Manufacturing.
• Experience with MEE execution, Integration of product/process/quality/metrology.
• Training and experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) and Innovation tools and methodologies.
• Effective at building relationships and collaboration in team.
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
