RPO Recruitment, a renowned recruitment agency in the mining industry, is currently seeking a skilled and experienced General Manager to oversee the smelter operations for our esteemed client in the mining industry, based in the North West province.
As the General Manager (Smelter), you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the smelter operations, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, and driving operational excellence. You will lead a team of professionals and work closely with other departments to achieve production targets and maximize profitability.

Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the smelter, including production, maintenance, and quality control
- Implement and monitor safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all staff
- Develop and execute strategies to optimize production and reduce costs
- Oversee the hiring and training of smelter personnel
- Monitor and analyze production data to identify areas for improvement and implement process enhancements
- Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, such as suppliers and regulatory authorities
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Prepare reports and present findings to senior management
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a Metallurgical plant or smelter operations
- 5 years’ managerial experience in management of Metallurgical plant operations including in-depth experience in managing overall operations of Smelter operations
- Proven track record of achieving production targets and driving operational efficiency
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Excellent knowledge of smelter processes and technologies
- Good understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
