Program management Role The SPM role requires the skills of both a senior project manager and a program manager. The SPM will oversee additional Project Managers and ensure that Program Goals are appropriately supported by each Project Manager's individual workstreams.
Primary Role The Senior Project Manager (SPM)is responsible for implementing the preconstruction, construction, commissioning and project closeout phases of a new infrastructure pathway and low voltage project at the JFK airport. The SPM will establish and maintain project controls to complete the project in a timely and cost-effective manner. The SPM must have demonstrated skills in negotiating, coordinating, and directing work, as well as overseeing junior project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and vendors. This person will be required to develop a strong working relationship with general contractor key personnel, and other related parties to establish and maintain a healthy working environment. This position is a full-time salary position and may require extended hours on any given day and will be required to be onsite full time.
Project planning The SPM will work with junior project managers and other key project leaders including senior technical advisor, financial leaders, project administrator and account managers to organize the workflow and success of the project. They are also charged with identifying and overseeing necessary resources, breaking down project scopes, and integrating the General Contractor's and Clients' s schedules to assure project success.
Project tracking Key tasks for the SPM include monitoring, management, and evaluation. The SPM will facilitate regular project team meetings to ensure positive performance metrics, progress tracking, and implement remediation steps as necessary, and to address unforeseen problems that arise.
Communications and coordination The SPM will be cross-functional, working with internal team leaders, project managers and external teams such as:
Subcontractors
Vendors
Suppliers
The SPM will be required to have a regular communication strategy with the Client leadership team, direct report team members, and the client and will prepare regular status reports. These reports should include project status, progress, metrics, risks, and short- and long-term planning. Internal meetings should include recognition of successes and accomplishments and encouragement surrounding major hurdles past, present or the future. Relationship management and team morale is critical, and the SPM should regularly engage team members in the field (all levels), with short introductions and thankful and thoughtful communication, and recognize outstanding achievements.
Leadership Coaching The SPM will be a key source of authority and will provide advice for project managers, superintendents, and other key members. The SPM should provide consultative expertise regarding best practices, ways to increase efficiency and boost productivity, and creative ways to motivate team members and subcontractors for continued success.
Travel This position is 100% onsite, though the resource should be able to work from a home office during planning phases.
Work experience and skills - At least 15 years related experience in construction project management, managing complex and fast-paced projects
- Experience working closely with general contractors and new construction
- Understanding of electrical and communications tasks such as the installation of cable tray, conduits, and structured cabling (copper and fiber)
- Ability to demonstrate leadership, drive results, solve problems, and demonstrate Interpersonal Skills
