Title: Research Associate II, Pathobiology
Location: Foster City (On-site)
The In Vivo Pathology (IVP) team within the Pathobiology department is seeking a research associate to contribute to histology and pathology workflows in support of pre-clinical in vivo pharmacological studies. This position will support drug development in diverse therapeutic areas such as inflammation, oncology, and virology. The successful candidate will provide scientific and technical expertise for tissue-based histopathology that spans assay development, whole slide scanning, image QC, analysis, and data reporting. A successful candidate will enjoy working in a team; carefully follow scientific protocols and apply meticulous attention to detail.
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
The main duties of this lab-based, on-site position include planning, development, and application of tissue-based procedures to include, automated Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and In-situ Hybridization (ISH) assays.
Whole slide scanning of histology slides for pathologist review or quantitative image analysis.
Manage sample tracking and communicate updates and instructions to downstream stakeholders.
Work closely with pathologists to communicate project status, QC data, and generate reports.
Compile quantitative image analysis data and prepare standardized pathology reports.
Maintain standardization of histology sample collection, processing, storage, and analysis.
Coordinate with external partners to ensure all related work and data generation is in alignment with internal methods and standards.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Bachelors degree or higher in an area of biological or medical science
2+ years of histology lab or related experience
Complete working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to interpret, communicate, and present scientific data
Highly motivated with a can do attitude and commitment to work as part of a team
The following are highly preferred, but not required:
Digital pathology experience, including image analysis and database software (i.e. VisioPharm, HALO, ImageJ, Proscia)
Experience with statistical analysis software (i.e PRISM GraphPad, Spotfire)
Basic histology procedures, including fixed tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy

Unique Selling Point of this role: Work alongside pathologist to oversee the histology/pathology process from sample collection through data reporting. This role has both lab and office/computer based responsibilities.
