As the Tax Manager, you will be responsible for the overall tax planning, reporting, and tax compliance for The Mutual Group and its Member institutions.
Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance:
- Utilize tax expertise in the preparation and supervision of federal/state tax, benefit plans, premium taxes, municipal taxes, assessment and surcharge management for TMG and its Member Institutions.
- Oversee accounting and reporting of fixed assets on both a tax and Statutory basis.
- Respond to IRS and other regulator requests, as applicable.
Tax Accounting & Reporting:
- Review/prepare tax accounting for current and deferred taxes on a quarterly basis (Statutory) for TMG’s Member institutions.
- Utilize expertise in SSAP 101 calculation and reporting.
- Utilize expertise in tax forecasting including projected tax accounting of loss reserves.
- Tax disclosures and tax reporting for annual/quarterly statement and audit report purposes.
Tax Strategy and Consulting:
- Strategic projects/planning.
- Tax Reform/Legislative Analysis.
- Subject Matter Expert on taxes for the company.
- Research into emerging legislation and tax guidance, assess impact, and communicate as appropriate.
Oversight, Administration and Management:
- Designing appropriate controls, administration and review.
- Budget planning, analysis and review on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Facilitation of both internal and external audits as it relates to tax.
- Pursue process efficiencies utilizing lean operations and process automation.
- Coaches, mentors and develops staff accordingly.
- Responsible for hiring, performance management and compensation decisions.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance related field.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Five (5) years of tax experience within the insurance industry.
- Three (3) years of public accounting experience.
- Three(3) or more years supervisory experience.
- Experience with Model Audit Rule or Sarbanes-Oxley (internal control environment), and SSAP101.
- Statutory and GAAP insurance tax accounting experience and knowledge.
- Demonstrates the ability to use commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within the P&C insurance industry and statutory and GAAP Tax Accounting principles.
- Convey clear, concise information to others, using verbal or other appropriate communication techniques.
- Demonstrates leadership experience and presentation skills.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Office. Formulate and prepare complex reports, spreadsheets and budgets using Excel and Access programs. Design PowerPoint presentations.
- Experience with GoSystems, Corporate Tax or similar tax return preparation software.
