POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides support/back-up to Sponsored Projects Administration Staff. Responsible for facilitating the preparation, review, negotiation, approval, and acquisition of basic/non-complex grants and contracts for the University.
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Assists with providing oversight and guidance to Principal Investigators (PI), and departmental staff on the development, submission, and acceptance of grant applications. Works with PI and departmental staff to process grant applications for deadlines.
2. Negotiates basic/templated sponsored project agreements, consulting agreements, budgets and other related documents on behalf the University. Assesses the administrative and contractual requirements of the funded research to negotiate proper terms and conditions based on the scope of work. Obtains the Authorized Representative Signature.
3. Negotiates, maintains and monitors subaward agreements with local, national and international collaborators. Establishes effective communications with subcontractors to ensure timely review and execution of these agreements.
4. Manages preparation, review and approval, and negotiations prior to coordinating signatures required for Material Transfer Agreement (MTA).
5. Works with other departments, including Legal Affairs, Technology Management, Procurement, and UT System to resolve problems and negotiate issues with contractual agreements.
6. Consistently applies, maintains, and disseminates technical knowledge of complex rules and regulations governing sponsored agreements as well as generally accepted accounting principles for grant applications and awards including references to the federal Uniform Guidance. . Maintains knowledge of various funding agency rules and regulations, institutional requirements, submission systems, and other relevant information as they pertain to grant administration.
7. Responsible for reviewing grant agreements and awards for terms and conditions and/or restrictions, and establishes controls as needed to ensure full compliance with agency and/or sponsor, State, UT System, and institutional requirements. Responsible for the accurate setup of grant awards coordinating account setup with the Post Award Finance team.
8. Acts as the primary liaison for the University administrative and financial functions for sponsored projects between PIs, and extramural sponsors. Provides justification, documentation, approvals, and policy/guideline interpretation.
9. Distributes pertinent information relating award provisions and obligations to Principal Investigators.
10. Participates in the training of University persons, through meetings and forums, to ensure effective application of University polices procedure, practices, and standards.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrate effective time management and organization skills with the ability to be priority oriented. Ability to work in various web-based systems (PeopleSoft, Grants Management, eRA Commons,etc.). Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of professional office experience, preferably at an academic institution. Some Research Administration experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
