Patient Service Rep, SPMFSan Francisco, CA
- Cardiology & Electrophysiology; M-F shift start at 8am-4:30pm (Training shifts 8:30am-5pm); Possibly temp to hire may be asked to work at secondary location in San Francisco based on staffing needs.
JOB SUMMARY:- Provides clerical support by answering telephones, scheduling and registering patients.
- Verifies insurance coverage, obtains patient demographics, ensures necessary authorizations are obtained prior to patient visits, and may troubleshoot billing problems.
Education/ Knowledge, including Licensure/ Certification/ Registration:- High school diploma/GED required.
- Experience in a high-volume specialty physician practice office as typically acquired in one year. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Knowledge of managed care, Medi-Cal, Medicare eligibility, authorization and billing requirements and physician billing procedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, Access or similar programs.
Experience:- Experience in medical office setting and IDX system desired.
Skills:- Ability to identify problems, prioritize, problem solve.
- Basic keyboarding and computer skills.
- Basic knowledge of English language, grammar and composition.
- Basic math skills demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Medical billing skills sufficient to coordinate authorization and billing requests.

Principal Accountabilities - Contacts other departments to assure coordination of appointments and information needed.
- Enters information into the computer system, including patient information and insurance.
- May forward insurance information to the appropriate department.
- May act as receptionist for department, answering phones, greeting visitors and responding to questions.
- May assemble chart and request and organize incoming records.
- May obtain or deliver medical items such as film, test results, prior files.
- May perform special tasks/projects as assigned.
- May provide administrative assistance such as typing, copying, filing, opening and distributing mail, scheduling for department staff. May order equipment and supplies.
- May trouble-shoot billing related problems.
- May work with billing staff to resolve problems and maximize reimbursement.
- Arranges payment plans with patients when necessary following proper procedures.
- May assist billing staff in reimbursement follow-up issues.
