About the Role

The Daily Beast is seeking a seasoned News Editor based on-site in New York to help lead our dynamic newsroom. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in journalism, a sharp editorial eye, and the ability to drive compelling and impactful news coverage.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the daily news coverage, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Break stories.
• Assign and edit stories, providing guidance to reporters to produce high-quality content.
• Collaborate with other editors and departments to develop and execute editorial strategies.
• Monitor news trends and stay ahead of the competition with breaking news.
• Maintain high journalistic standards and uphold The Daily Beast's editorial voice.
• Mentor and support reporters, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in journalism, with at least 3 years in a senior editorial role.
• Proven track record of leading a newsroom and managing a team of reporters.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Strong news judgment and the ability to make quick editorial decisions.
• Deep understanding of digital media and audience engagement strategies.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Pay Range Salary

The pay range for this position is $120,000 to $170,000 annually. 

The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, performance and other factors. The range listed is just one component of the Daily Beast’s total compensation package. The Daily Beast provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, 401K employer matching program, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO).
