Founded in 2020, Bosque Foods is the first European fungi-based meat alternative company focusing entirely on the whole-cut meat segment. After graduating from the IndieBio’s accelerator program in New York City, we are now opening our lab in Berlin, Germany.
Job Description:
We are looking for a Biotechnologist to assist our R&D team in the development of our mycelium-based technology. You should be passionate about microbial fermentation in cultivating fungi (previous experience is a great plus). You should have an entrepreneurial drive and mindset, high ambition and the ability to assist the scientific team in the development of our upstream and downstream bioprocess. You should be a problem solver with effective critical thinking skills and a self-motivated entrepreneurial drive. You should have a track record in biotechnology or biology, and be able to adapt to new processes. You must be comfortable and experienced in the lab setting. You will contribute to the team’s research and design of the company’s experimental plan.
Tasks
Role & Responsibilities
- Assist the R&D team in planning, executing, and analyzing benchtop fermentation trials, including operations of fermentation reactors and downstream separation systems, to improve yield and production processes.
- Analyze datasets and infer underlying chemical and biological processes.
- Develop and improve relevant analytical methods based on the R&D experimental plan.
- Take ownership of our strain bank, spawn and substrate preparation process, while guaranteeing a high level of sterility and cleanliness in the lab.
- Maintain lab and benchtop equipment.
- Perform strain and substrate recipe screening at lab scale.
- Maintain fermentation data in databases and write scientific reports to keep track of progress.
- Effectively present lab findings to Lead Scientists and wider team
- Generate new scientific ideas to help shape Bosque Foods’ overall direction as a company and support its evolving needs.
Requirements
Must-Have:
- Master or Bachelor in Science in the fields of Biology/ Biotechnology/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry or similar science degree.
- Previous experience in lab work and fermentation technology.
- Proven ability in statistical analysis and interpreting scientific data.
- Excellent communications skills, teamwork, and emotional intelligence.
- Hands-on with a proactive and problem solving mindset.
- English language proficiency, German is a plus.
Great-to-Have:
- Previous experience with using sidestreams (plant biomass) as fermentation substrate.
- Previous experience in cultivating fungi.
- Extensive Knowledge of different statistical design of experiments models, data analysis software or savviness in IT softwares for data analysis.
- Strategic and analytical thinker, capable of assisting on plans to improve internal competencies and technologies to achieve company objectives.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and skills.
- Previous experience with the design and development of bioprocesses, especially around scale-up and process optimisation.
