Duties: Scientific Associate I
Job Purpose:
The Virology and Cell Culture group is seeking a candidate to join a dynamic Technology Development (TD) organization responsible for supporting commercial influenza vaccine manufacturing and process development. The incumbent in this contract position will be responsible for the execution of cell culture and virology methods in support of technology development for viral vaccines.
Candidate will provide support on projects of varying size and demonstrate awareness of broader project objectives. The fundamental analytical techniques of vaccine support/virology and other biological products should be understood and practiced in an education/industrial setting. The successful applicant will be able to analyze information and standard practices using existing procedures to solve routine problems, and be accountable for self-development to enhance contribution.
Major Accountabilities:
• Responsible for developing and maintaining mammalian cell culture (shake flasks, bioreactors) and virus propagation
•Will execute experiments related to mammalian cell culture and be responsible for providing data and analysis of data
• Responsible for cell and virus culture sampling, sample processing, testing and analysis standard virology techniques and assays
• Perform routine laboratory instrument maintenance calibration, and preparation (no special skills required)
• Must be able to perform aseptic handling of cell cultures and provide cells to virology team members in support of virology candidate screening
• Maintain appropriate laboratory notebooks and documentation
• Responsible for helping to interpret data and determining issues/concerns with data experiments
• Ability to deliver data/results in accordance with predetermined project deadlines
Skills:
• Previous experience working with viruses strongly preferred
• Handling and cultivation of mammalian cell culture
• Operation of cell culture laboratory equipment and instruments (bioreactors, bioanalyzers, cell counters, centrifuges, etc.)
• Aseptic operations experience (biosafety level 2 agents preferred)
• Additional hands-on experience and understanding of biophysical techniques, virology techniques and tissue culture is desirable

Recent graduate is preferred.
Education:
• BS/MS in Biological Sciences with 0-3+ years of experience
