We are currently accepting applications for a new position. The Safety Program Manager oversees all THF (The Henry Ford) safety programs, implementing and enforcing policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. Operations include warehouse, conservation, facilities, skilled trade, working farms/livestock, food and beverage, and entertainment/theatrical. Required to develop strong working relationships and function as part of a team with all levels of leadership and a wide range of staff. The Safety Program Manager promotes a positive safety culture while supporting compliance with state and federal law. This includes conducting training and coaching employees on observed work habits.
The Safety Program Manager will work closely with the Director of Security & Safety, Talent and Culture, and other senior staff at The Henry Ford on a wide range of safety issues.
Essential Responsibilities
• Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks across a wide range of work centers, supporting management efforts to ensure compliance with safety program expectations and applicable federal and state laws.
• Develops and implements inspection policies, procedures, and schedule of routine inspections, and conducts risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment inspections.
• Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company and monitors compliance with safety procedures.
• Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
• Oversees the legal handling and processing of waste in accordance with RCRA guidelines of a small quantity generator and follows RCRA, MIOSHA and OSHA regulations for storage and transport of hazardous waste.
• Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
• Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
• Maintains records of discharge or of employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
• Demonstrates flexibility and ability to operate within an ambiguous and changing environment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required, Master’s degree desirable.
• Subject Matter Expert: Extensive knowledge of MIOSHA and OSHA regulations and environmental/safety regulations and policies.
• 3 or more years of experience in an Environmental Health & Safety related field.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software in a professional capacity.
• Safety Professional certification required (CSP preferred, ASP or GSP certifications acceptable).
Special Skills & Preferred Qualifications
• OSHA 30 Certification and/or SERV Safe Certification desirable.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
• Excellent leadership, teamwork, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience maintaining confidentiality in matters involving security and/or personnel issues in the workplace.
• Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL
Physical: Extensive walking and standing. Moderate crouching, crawling, carrying, pushing, and/or lifting up to 50 lbs. Regular office work, sitting, keyboarding. Unless noted here, other physical requirements are minimal or not applicable.
Mental: Extensive practical problem solving and attention to detail. Ability to interact with senior leadership and convey ideas in a professional manner.
Environment: Frequent work outside in all weather conditions.
