The Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine (The College), a young and innovative medical school in beautiful and sunny Las Cruces, New Mexico, invites applications for a full-time, year-round (12-month appointment) faculty position in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. The College seeks to identify and hire an energetic, dedicated individual with strong pedagogical versatility, a passion for teaching and enthusiasm for mentoring students academically and for summer research projects. The ideal candidate will be either a PhD with postdoctoral experience or a Board Certified PharmD and will have demonstrated relevant teaching experience in the field of pharmacology
The College’s mission is to educate a diverse osteopathic physician workforce committed to improving the quality and access to healthcare in underserved communities. While teaching is the primary focus of our faculty, an outstanding research laboratory is available to foster faculty-driven research projects and/or engage students in research. The College implements a spiral, systems-based curriculum that effectively integrates disciplines, and incorporates interactive methodologies and an andragogical teaching philosophy. The College encourages student learning in a humanistic environment, and promotes patient-centered, evidence-based medical care of the highest quality, in a manner consistent with these core values.
Successful candidates will function as a member of a collaborative teaching team to develop and deliver their instructional content within an integrated curriculum. The primary teaching focus of this position will involve teaching medical students through the systems-based courses of the 1st and 2nd academic years. Responsibilities will include developing collaboratively designed and highly integrated curricular elements with other faculty. Service to the College and the community will also be an essential function of the position, including committee membership, faculty development, student advising, interviewing prospective students, and community outreach. Additionally, evidence of scholarly activity with a record of publication and productivity, are preferred and valued credentials in prospective candidates.
Minimum Qualifications:
Terminal degree (PharmD, MD, PhD)
Evidence of commitment to teaching pharmacology in a medical school or pharmacy school setting.
Evidence of, and the potential for growth in, teaching, scholarly activity, and service.
Preferred Qualifications:
Pharmacology teaching experience in US-based medical school or pharmacy school settings
Experience using innovative teaching methods which might include team-based learning, ‘flipped classroom’, problem-based learning, distance learning, interactive large group presentation, audience response systems, curriculum learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), and proficiency in exam item writing (USMLE and/or COMLEX-style).
Experience in online teaching activities
Experience with curricular and instructional design.

Note: Applicants must currently be authorized to lawfully work in the United States on a full-time basis.
