Lycoming College is Hiring an Assistant Professor of Statistics

Lycoming College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Statistics position that is open within the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The successful candidate will teach an average of five courses per year, several of which have labs. These courses will include introductory statistics, multivariable statistics, a two-course sequence aligned to the Society of Actuaries’ Exam P, and a two-course sequence aligned to the Society of Actuaries’ Exam FM.

What We Are Looking For:

As a department, we strive to make math accessible and create meaningful educational experiences for all our students. We recognize that students come to us with a wide variety of backgrounds and levels of preparation. We welcome diversity, and we strive to support all our students. In the past decade, over half of our math and actuarial science graduates have been women and one third of our graduate’s college-wide have been either international students or domestic students of color. The successful candidate is expected to be an effective teacher who will uphold these values and be a respectful advocate for all their students. We serve many first-generation college students and Pell Grant eligible students. Applicants should enjoy the challenges of working with students who need a bit of extra attention to realize, and then reach, their full potential. While effective teaching is the most important part of this position, service to the college and continued scholarship (broadly defined, but resulting in peer-reviewed work) are required in order to earn tenure as well as promotion.
