About Piclo
The climate crisis means that now, more than ever, we need to act. Here at Piclo, we believe we are not powerless against climate change and are focused on enabling the transition to a decarbonised future. Our team is on a mission to make our energy systems smart, flexible and sustainable.
Who we are looking for
We’re hiring a Senior UX/Service Designer to work in one of our Production teams, which is focussed on the experience of people and organisations buying energy. In this role, you would:
- Lead the design process within your team, which consists of a Product Manager and several Software Engineers.
- Cover all aspects of UX/Service design, from early-stage user research through to developing and testing hi-fidelity prototypes.
- Provide input into strategic decision-making and vision setting for your team’s areas of responsibility.
About the role
This role is responsible for leading all aspects of UX/Service design within one of our multidisciplinary Production teams and contributing to Piclo’s mission to decarbonise the world’s grids. The Senior UX/Service Designer will:
- Design Leadership: Take full responsibility for the design outcomes of your team, ensuring that all research and design deliverables meet or exceed project goals and user needs. Ensure design thinking and user-centric principles are integrated into the product development lifecycle.
- Research and Testing: Design and deliver comprehensive research processes, including user testing, to gather insights and inform design decisions. Create and utilise research collateral such as user journey maps, user personas, and usability test findings to guide the design process.
- Design Deliverables Creation: Develop a wide range of design artefacts, including wireframes, prototypes, and detailed design specifications. Ensure these deliverables effectively communicate design concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical team members.
- Enhanced Collaboration and Communication: Lead by example in fostering collaboration across design, product, engineering and commercial teams. Act as a design advocate, ensuring that user-centred design principles are integrated into all phases of the product development process.
- Strategic Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders at all levels, from team members to executive leadership, to ensure design strategies and deliverables are clearly understood and aligned with business and user objectives. Facilitate workshops and design thinking sessions to align vision and drive consensus.
- Design Mentorship: Foster a culture of design excellence by mentoring junior designers, sharing knowledge and expertise, and promoting continuous learning and professional growth.

Who we are
Piclo’s mission is to decarbonise the grid. We are an independent marketplace for Distributed Energy Resources (DER). Our software solutions help these batteries, electric vehicles, homes and offices to sell their flexibility to electricity grid operators. And we help these grid and system operators create new markets through which to buy that flexibility.
To date, Piclo has over 300,000 registered flexible assets representing 22 GW of registered flex capacity, with flexibility contracts awarded totalling £74m and 2.6 GW+ of flexible capacity procured.
Piclo currently operates globally, with current markets in the UK, Europe (Ireland, Italy, Portugal), the United States, and Australia - with ambitions to expand further.
We know “flexibility” can be quite complex to understand at first, here’s a short video that explains “what are flexibility services?”
Inclusivity
Our team welcomes everyone to work together on our mission. We are all in this together after all. We don’t believe that anyone should be discriminated against for any reason, be that age, nationality, gender, race, sexual preferences, religious beliefs, political leanings or disabilities. We welcome diversity among our colleagues and see it as important that everyone is supported and comfortable working with us. Piclo is expanding internationally, so English doesn’t have to be your first language, but we would like you to be fluent.
