Overview
Here at ALVIC USA, we are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Environmental Health and Safety Engineer to join our manufacturing team. The EHS Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs and environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and promote a safe and healthy workplace. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health, safety, and environmental management within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Program Development and Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Compliance and Regulatory responsibilities relative to the local ordinances that the multiple ALVIC facilities are governed by.
- Environmental Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations, including waste management, emissions, and chemical storage.
- Develop and implement environmental policies and procedures to minimize environmental impact.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments and audits.
- Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver training programs on health, safety, and environmental topics to employees at all levels.
- Maintain training records and ensure all employees receive necessary safety training.
- Promote a culture of safety through continuous education and awareness programs.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Perform risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Develop emergency response plans and conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness.
- Monitor and analyze safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay up-to-date with local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Ensure all necessary permits and licenses are obtained and maintained.
- Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance health, safety, and environmental performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into operational processes.
- Implement best practices and new technologies to improve safety and environmental outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as an EHS Engineer or in a similar role within a manufacturing setting.
- In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to conduct root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in EHS management software and tools.
- Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience with environmental sustainability initiatives and programs.
Working Conditions
- This role requires regular presence on the manufacturing floor, which may involve exposure to loud noises, machinery, and varying temperatures.
- Occasional travel may be required to support off-site projects or training.
- Ability to respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours.
