What you’ll be doing:
- Foster Cruise’s Safety First culture
- Leading the launch and land functions of deploying and returning autonomous vehicles during driverless operations for egress and ingress
- AV (autonomous vehicle) cleaning and disinfection
- AV operational safety and integrity checks
- AV charging at Cruise facilities and, independently, at public charging sites
- AV launch preparation including systems fire up and functional checks
- Parking and staging vehicles
- Manual driving of vehicles between facilities and to charging locations
- Executing ‘Lost and Found’ procedures
- Participating in the ongoing training and mentoring of new Driverless Support Specialists
- Operate an autonomous vehicle manually on public or Cruise private property, potentially with and without occupants (depending on role level and location), and assisting in cleaning, charging, and other functions to support fleet operations.
- In partnership with remote stakeholders, you will triage, recover, and/or retrieve AVs, but not limited to placing the AV back into service or returning it to base, and/or customer interaction when necessary, liaising with other parties onsite (including customers, first responders, law enforcement, and tow truck operators)
- Documenting the scene and gathering reportable information
- Working with the Customer Support and Vehicle Service teams to delight passengers and return vehicles to service following on-road events
- Assisting with ad hoc mapping missions as needed
- Performing ad hoc projects as needed, including those in support of AV testing, delivery and other community support and/or pilots
Based on business/operational needs, duties may also include:
- Assign Driverless Support Specialists to available AVs, conduct pre and post-shift briefings, direct start up conditions, and garage exit and parking lot staging strategy
- Complete required vehicle-checks, train and audit Driverless Support Specialists ’ successful completion of required vehicle-checks
- Organize and assign asset and people transfers between facilities
- Utilize Cruise’s proprietary software for operational-process completion
- Maintain inventory of garage materials and cleanliness
- Monitor communications to assist in troubleshooting and operational necessities
- Conduct training for Driverless Support Specialists (new and current) and complete refreshers as needed, audit processes, assign Driverless Support Specialists for shadowing
- Manage breaks and lunches Driverless Support Specialists
- Manage AV preparation, launch, ingress, and AV transfers between facilities
- Analyze Cruise Metrics and provide targeted operational coaching and feedback to Driverless Support Specialists
- Take ownership for the day-to-day management, and on-site performance of Driverless Support Specialists
- Raise opportunities for improvement from systemic issues observed; strategize and make recommendations for improvements
- Ensure the success of the shift by meeting service-level agreements while maintaining high levels of team morale, enthusiasm, and engagement
- Help manage our fleet of AVs, ensuring a safe and efficient operation
- Assist with special projects across teams to deliver on interdependent KPIs
- Own ‘Lost and Found’ responsibilities as outlined in the SOP
What you must have:
- Prioritize safety and maintain a safety-first mindset, while following all safe work practices and policies
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, including interacting with the public
- Satisfy the following MVR requirements:
- California: Satisfy the legal requirements to become an AV Test Operator (13 CCR § 227.34), including being licensed to drive a motor vehicle in the U.S. for the three years immediately preceding your application, currently holding an active California Basic Class C driver's license or license encompassing Class C vehicles, and no more than one point on driving record
- Arizona: Licensed to drive a motor vehicle in the U.S. for three years, currently holding an active Arizona Operator License Class D or equivalent, and no more than one point on driving record.
- Texas: Licensed to drive a motor vehicle in the U.S. for three years, currently holding a Texas Class C Non-Commercial Driver License or equivalent, and no more than one point on driving record.
- Successfully complete a background check, drug screen and DMV Motor Vehicle Record check
- Ability to drive and/or ride in vehicle alternating roles for up to eight hours/day
- Ability to remain alert and extremely focused for uninterrupted blocks of time
- Accurately type and read on a laptop in a moving vehicle
- Ability to give and receive clear, prompt, and understandable verbal and written communications
- High attention to detail
- Safely operate in accordance with Cruise safety protocols and applicable law. This includes, but is not limited to: having a sufficient range of motion to frequently turn a steering wheel, operate the accelerator and brake, check blind spots and evaluate the environment, and maintaining appropriate air bag clearance
- Regularly perform physical work including, but not limited to, stooping, lifting, and moving up to [30 pounds for AUS, SF] [50 pounds for Phoenix], and walking up and down flights of stairs
- Computer literacy required, with an emphasis on laptop usage. Expectations include skills such as navigating through multiple accounts and windows quickly, using common keyboard shortcuts, and using various software programs to include instant messaging. Must type a minimum of 20 wpm.
- This position is full-time employment with our contingent workforce supplier.
