Join our team at ROM for a fulfilling contract position as a Retail Store Sales Representative, supporting our peak periods, special exhibitions, and March Break.

POSITION SUMMARY: 

As a Retail Store Sales Representative at ROM, you will support our busy periods, including the holidays, special exhibitions, and March Break. This contract position will provide additional support during our peak visitor times. Your responsibilities will include assisting visitors in selecting products, processing transactions, maintaining organized and appealing merchandise displays, and helping create an exceptional retail experience for our guests.

Group Hiring Event

Selected applicants will be invited to a dynamic group hiring event in early December. This experiential group interview format will allow you to showcase your skills in a hands-on, interactive environment, demonstrating your customer service, communication, and teamwork abilities. Unlike traditional interviews, this event is designed to allow you to highlight your strengths and stand out.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Efficiently handle customer purchases and provide exceptional service throughout the transaction process.
  • Provide detailed information about ROM’s retail products and galleries, promoting the unique value of ROM’s brand.
  • Address customer concerns and escalate unresolved issues to the Assistant Manager for prompt resolution.
  • Welcome visitors with a friendly attitude, ensuring smooth management of cash desk lines, especially during busy periods.
  • Promote a seamless shopping experience, highlighting product benefits and membership opportunities.
  • Ensure store displays are visually appealing, organized, and maintained.
  • Regularly clean and tidy store fixtures and report product shortages or issues to the Manager.
  • Participate in sales, customer experience, and retail training sessions as required.
  • Assist in onboarding and supporting new team members.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Certification in retail, hospitality, tourism, or customer service would be valuable. 
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a retail, hospitality, tourism, customer service, or sales role. 
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to uphold the ROM's customer service standards are essential. 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in a second language, especially French, would be advantageous.  
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including effectively informing visitors and shoppers and representing the ROM's brand through retail sales.  
  • Comfortable working in crowded environments and skilled at handling public inquiries and complaints tactfully and diplomatically.  
  • Flexibility to work various shifts during the day and evening. The position requires availability for flexible hours, including evenings, holidays, and extended shifts during busy periods.

STATUS: Part-time Contract (
Supporting peak periods, holidays, special exhibitions, and March Break)
EMPLOYEE GROUP: OPSEU Local 543 
SALARY/HOURLY RATE: $20.01 - 22.86
SCHEDULE: Up to 24 hours weekly
LOCATION (onsite): Toronto, ON
