Position Scope:
- This position is responsible for the development of long and short-term mine plans, mine plans designs, geological services, environmental compliance and permitting, the quality control lab, and provide or coordinate engineering services to support the coal processing and maintenance facilities as needed in accordance with overall company objectives.
- The position is responsible for developing the Mine's budget and life of mine plans.
- The position is responsible for the mentoring and development of department personnel.
- The incumbent will work closely with Mine Management to ensure engineering plans support the safe and cost-efficient operation of the mine.
- The incumbent will assume other duties and responsibilities as may be required.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
- The position is responsible for the mentoring and development of department personnel.
- Direct reports include Sr. Quality Control Engineer, Sr. Environmental Supervisor, Sr. Mine Engineers (3), and Mine Engineer.
- Indirectly supervise lab technicians, and engineering consultants as needed.
- Critical to this position is direct collaboration with Production Managers, Superintendents and Supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive.
- Responsible for short range mine plans for the purpose of government reports, budgets, forecasts, cost comparisons and mine objectives.
- Ensure geological model, pit design, equipment selection, production scheduling and reclamation plan meet the mine objectives.
- Prepare and review relevant Acquisition for Expenditures (AFE) and feasibility studies.
- Prepare annual capital and operating budgets.
- Ensure the changes in environment and safety legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines are reviewed and updated at the mine site.
- Ensure the mines meet the criteria set out by regulatory stakeholders such as WY-DEQ, BLM, Royalty Holders, MSHA, OSM, etc.
- Ensure the engineering department is aware of all the relevant sections and responsibilities within the Safety, Health and Environment guidelines.
- Prepare permits and mine license applications.
- Manage customer relations within the Coal Supply Agreements.
- Assist in land management, special projects and economic evaluations.
- Ensure all personnel are properly trained in all aspects of safety and engineering functions within the department.
- Assume other duties and/or responsibilities as required in response to changing circumstances and the economic and physical environment of the Mine or Company.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor Degree in Engineering.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.).
- Six or more years of mining related experience.
- Six or more years of proven leadership experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with their teams.

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced mine setting and dynamic company culture.
- Problem solver and analytical, capable of seeing both the big picture and the fine details to support the project and our clients.
- Comfortable with building and improving processes and best practices.
- Advanced computer and software skills including the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
- Ability to travel when necessary.
