Summary
This is a hands-on, working leader role responsible for collaborating with Washburn leadership and staff to deliver technology services and manage day-to-day IT operations. The Associate Director oversees system lifecycles, manages investments in Washburn’s IT infrastructure, and ensures the continual modernization of IT platforms. The focus of this position is to lead and manage a technology services team and a managed services provider to improve customer service, operational efficiency, and system stability.
As a key member of the operational leadership team, the Associate Director will manage network support, hardware support, repairs, and ensure seamless functionality across the organization. This role is responsible for supporting IT employees, addressing hardware, software, and communication technology issues, as well as managing hardware and software license inventories.
Provide leadership in the management, planning, prioritization, budgeting, and policy development for the effective use of MNHS digital infrastructure, business applications, and data architecture (50%)
* Gain a thorough understanding of Washburn’s goals and ensure technology supports day-to-day operations and long-term needs.
* Work with leadership to create a plan for IT infrastructure, including business applications and network architecture, ensuring work aligns with Washburn’s priorities and resources.
* Oversee daily IT operations, including business systems, cybersecurity, user support, and IT project management, ensuring smooth and efficient performance.
* Support the sustainability of Washburn’s mission by balancing investments in IT infrastructure with its core programs and ongoing operations.
* Understand the internal environment and constraints affecting technology services to ensure they meet the organization’s needs.
* Conduct regular assessments to identify gaps and future needs in digital infrastructure and help develop actionable plans to address them, considering risks and rewards.
* Assist in the implementation of change management, stakeholder communication, and engagement strategies to ensure smooth adoption of new systems or processes.
Accountable for appropriate and cost-effective technology solutions. (20%)
* Oversee IT infrastructure, business system needs analysis, cybersecurity, user support, and IT project management functions, and ensure alignment of work with managed services provider.
* Within the context of an IT governance and transparent decision-making plan, coordinate and implement long- and short-term financial and operational plans.
* Evolve a hybrid approach to IT management using both traditional and agile tools, principles, and approaches as appropriate.
* Establish policies for the acquisition, use, and cost-effective application of IT technologies.
* Guide, implement, manage, and update the IT infrastructure management plan.
* Ensure Washburn invests sufficient resources to train the entire workforce in the optimal use of IT assets.
* Partner with managed service provider to ensure that Washburn provides a secure environment for employees and clients, including meeting or exceeding PCI standards and other IT best practice recommendations.
* Work with the CAO to prepare an annual operating a budget for Information Technology and manage the work within the approved budget
Team Leadership (20%)
* Provide guidance to direct reports (2) in developing department and individual work plans, effectively managing resources, capacity, customer service, and operational performance.
* Align the department priorities to support the business technology needs; update as changes are needed.
* Guide the development and implementation of department policies, programs, and initiatives that are responsive to workforce needs and further the accomplishment of Washburn’s priorities.
* Establish metrics, review status reports, monitor results, and customer service, and take corrective action as necessary to achieve desired results.
* Provide direction for recruiting, hiring, retaining, managing, and developing an IT team that meets current and future organizational needs.
* Demonstrate personal commitment to ensuring a department environment that values inclusion, equity, and diversity.
* Develop and support a culture of customer service, process improvement and efficiency.
Organizational Partnership (10%)
* Provide subject matter expertise and solutions to other managers. Provide a voice for Technology Services with the operational leadership team.
* Advocate for and manage shifting technology priorities; clearly communicate these to all parties.
* Promote a culture of customer service, high performance, teamwork, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration that reflects the values and desired culture of Washburn.
* Build relationships and partnerships within Washburn and leverage expertise and collaboration with program areas to clearly define responsibility for the management of key business systems.
* In collaboration with program areas, conduct assessments and identify gaps and opportunities related to current and future business application and data architecture needs, and lead the development and implementation of plans to meet program needs based on assessments of risks, rewards, challenges, and organizational constraints.
* Participate in Washburn internal task forces, committees, or teams as appropriate.
* Establish and maintain a portfolio of digital modernization projects and budgets.
* Report status of digital modernization projects progress and accomplishments, risks and roadblocks, budgets, and forecasts on a regular basis to the Washburn Leadership Team.
* Maintain pace with emerging digital infrastructure trends and develop the future state IT architectures and roadmaps for business system platforms improvements.
* Perform resource/capacity planning to support delivery of the IT modernization.
