Role Overview:
Chaos is seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer to work with a small, focused team to rapidly conceptualize, design, prototype, and field innovative products. A successful candidate will be self-directed and success-oriented in an organization that values progress over process. This is a full-time position on-site in Hermosa Beach, CA.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, assemble, and test mechanical hardware
- Rapid prototype (including additively manufacture) solutions in internal and external machine shops
- Create and maintain CAD models for production hardware
- Use hand calculations, finite element analyses (FEA), and computer-aided designs (CAD) to ensure all hardware meets or exceeds internal and customer requirements
- Participate in design reviews and hardware qualifications
- Serve as technical interface with vendors and suppliers
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Experience with CAD and FEA software packages in a professional setting
- Experience with designing for manufacturability
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Hands-on experience with hardware integration whether in a professional setting or personal projects/hobbies
- Experience working with prototyping and machine shop equipment
- Experience working in a fast-paced organization with multiple competing deadlines and shifting priorities
- Strong attention to detail and work ethic
- Strong knowledge of industry practices, drafting standards, and drawing notes for military and commercial hardware design documentation
Preferred Requirements:
- Master's degree in an engineering discipline
- Experience with SolidWorks for designing parts and assemblies
- Experience with at least one commercial FEA or multiphysics simulation package (NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, CFD codes, COMSOL, etc.)
- Experience designing RF products
- Experience interpreting and applying military specifications and standards
- Experience developing concepts for proposals and writing proposals

Salary range: $110,000 - $160,000
The stated compensation range reflects only the targeted base compensation range and excludes additional earnings such as bonus, equity, and benefits.
