Position: Occupational Therapy - Pediatrics

Occupational Summary:
Independently evaluates the functional ability of patients through the administration, interpretation of standardized tests, clinical observation, and patient/family interview. Creates individualized treatment and educational plans and provides patient/family counseling and training. Develops and implements innovative and specific treatment plans to maximize the patient's functional potential or return to previous level of functioning, based on clinical findings. Consults with medical team and allied health professionals and documents all pertinent clinical findings to render a comprehensive, family-based, or individual intervention plan. Proficiency in the care of patients with feeding and/or swallowing impairments is often needed.
Education / Licensure:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an AOTA accredited program (if a graduate prior to 2004)
  • Master's degree (doctorate preferred)
Experience:
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience can be a mix of pediatrics and adults.
  • Experience in pediatric feeding and swallowing difficulties.
  • Experience in pediatric general developmental therapy.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Bilingual strongly preferred.
Job Duties:
  • Applies scientific, behavioral, and humanistic principles for application to clinical practice. Adheres to standards established within the assigned department.
  • Utilizes and supports practice guidelines.
  • Analyzes initial and ongoing assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses and patient outcomes.
  • Assesses patient health problems and needs.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribe interventions to obtain expected outcomes.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multi-disciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, Coordinates, and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patient's visitors and staff.
  • Follows universal precautions.
  • Implements emergency care procedures in potential or actual emergencies according to department policies, procedure, and protocol.
  • Maintains skill/competency related to special equipment, medications, and procedures common to the patient population of the unit/division.
  • Maintains skill/competency as required by JCAHO.
  • Evaluates patient's response to the multidisciplinary care.
  • Uses evaluation data to revise and implement change.
  • Assumes accountability for the provision of care for patients.
  • Assumes responsibility for care provided by self and other staff members under the nurse's direction. Maintains medical records and patient confidentiality.
  • Complies with hospital policies.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
