Below is the description of the long term opportunity I currently have available with my client, Peabody Energy. They want a SQL Server DBA (infrastructure NOT Apps) and if they have Oracle as well, that would be perfect. They will not accept an Oracle DBA with some SQL Server. Must have good English skills. This position is on-site (no remote).
Position is for a Senior DBA role responsible for providing operational database services to the organization. This role will support Peabody's production, QA, and development database environments. The role requires a service oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of problems and requests assigned, and focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with SLAs. The role will establish and maintain communication with technology customers to provide updates on status of requests, initiate and perform changes on production systems, and proactively escalate issues that cannot be resolved within established timeframes. Peabody's environment contains both SQL Server and Oracle databases. Principal Responsibilities: - Owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests.
- Fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs.
- Reviewing service related reports (e.g., database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs.
- Responding to database related alerts and to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems.
- Collaborates in the development of Enterprise Architecture standards and strategy in relation to Peabody's database platform.
- Provides direction to offshore database team.
- Utilizes performance and capacity management tools for proactive management.
Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor degree or equivalent working experience
- 5-10 years of experience with Database Administration (Oracle or SQL Server)
- Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems
- Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
- Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
- Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts
- Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics
- Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory and proper disk configurations
- Good communication and documentation skills
- Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and manage personal work and small projects.
- Experience deploying, configuring, patching, and upgrading following best practices
- Experience using Avamar for backups
- Experience with VMWare
- Willingness to work as part of a team
- Ability to support and troubleshoot SSIS, SSRS, SSAS
Preferred Additional Qualifications:- Experience with both Oracle and SQL Server is a plus
- Certification is a plus
- Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options
- Ability to diagnose problems and resolve issues across various tiers (application, database , network, server and storage)
- Knowledge of data migration, replication, archiving, and access techniques
