As part of our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Buyer to join our manufacturing site in Irvine.
This is an onsite position.
- The Senior Strategic Buyer will closely work with the procurement team/other buyers by optimizing procurement processes and driving initiatives within the Supply Chain Team.
- The Senior Strategic Buyer works within the Planet Innovation Business units consisting of Design and Manufacturing to ensure that best value procurement is being practiced at all stages of the Product Development Cycle.
- This role supports ensuring that all processes are carried out in adherence to regulatory guidelines, and internal business compliance with the broader Procurement team.
- Develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies to ensure procurement and goods and services aligns with the company’s objectives and goals. This role is a hands-on position and involves:
Suppliers:
- Lead the development and execution of strategic sourcing strategies to identify cost savings opportunities, optimize supplier relationships and mitigate supply chain risks
- Working with suppliers to establish appropriate quotations and lead times
- Liaising with suppliers to resolve short deliveries and price discrepancies
- Sourcing new suppliers as required
- Negotiation with suppliers to ensure favorable terms for PI
- Effectively manage relationships with key suppliers, including key sub-suppliers
- Manage the entire contract lifecycle from drafting and negotiation to execution and compliance management; NDAs and other commercial agreements with an understanding of the supplier’s sub-supply chain on critical requirements and components
Purchase Orders/Pricing:
- Raising purchase orders and processing purchase orders
- Authorising vendor payments via purchase orders for Advanced purchases with the Finance team
- Updates of pricing and parts data to ERP system (Item Master maintenance)
- Assist internal customers with their purchase orders
- Reconciling of vendor invoices and monthly statements with the Finance team
Parts:
- Evaluate and approve the commercial suitability of parts and processes that are intended for series production at the earliest possible point in the product development process
- Support procurement of all components for Alpha, Beta, and PPU prototype builds to meet project delivery timing
- Ensure that documents provided for part procurement comply with the standard procurement process
- Support modifications to part design, tooling, or manufacturing process until the part is approved
- Ensure supplier compliance with ROHS and REACH as early as possible for all parts
Logistics/Shipping:
- Liaising with international and domestic freight forwarders to optimise local and overseas deliveries. This is in support of Alpha, Beta and PPU prototype builds
- Working with the warehouse for goods receipting and ensuring documentation is correct for deliveries
- Ensure compliance with Planet Innovation international freight processes and all relevant law
Cost Optimization:
- Continuously evaluate and optimize the procurement process to streamline operations and improve efficiency without compromising quality or service levels.
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a similar role
- Experience purchasing from local and overseas suppliers
- High-level understanding of financial systems concepts, principles, and processes
- Strong questioning techniques and the ability to ask for additional information as needed
- Strong communication skills and the ability to establish professional relationships
- Familiarity and compliance with international quality standards e.g. ISO9001, ISO13485 and FDA QSR regulations
- Previous experience with a procurement system ideally NetSuite
- Proficiency in contract management and supplier relationship management
- Well-versed in risk management and developing contingency plans
