Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking a Financial Planning & Analysis (“FP&A”) Senior Officer to provide support to the Finance Division with forecasting, financial planning, internal reporting, and maintaining fiscal integrity. The FP&A Senior Officer reports to the FP&A Senior Associate Director who is based in Brussels, Belgium.
The location of this position is flexible, but time zones with shared office hours to Central European Time or Eastern Standard Time will be preferred. The successful candidate may have the option to work remotely. We aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment and onboarding of this position.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform sophisticated analyses using financial modeling to provide guidance on long-term financial strategy, cost saving methodology, and expense forecasting;
2. Produce high-level, specialized financial reports for financial stakeholders and budget managers;
3. Lead the transformation of significant financial reports that are created manually into efficient, automated reports using tools, such as PowerBI and Excel;
4. Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements of financial planning infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and providing actionable insight into key performance metrics for the organization;
5. Assist FP&A leadership in establishing financial KPIs for all departments’ operations and strategic plans, including measuring and assessing progress against those metrics.
6. Develop and document processes and protocols helpful to the FP&A team to increase efficiencies, and reduce redundancies and error;
7. Clearly communicate complex modeling processes and results to key financial stakeholders and non-finance audiences alike;
8. Prepare and maintain detailed organizational expense budgets and financial forecasts, incorporating organizational drivers, and operational metrics;
9. Demonstrate inclusive behavior and consistently adhere to HRW’s internal values; and
10. Perform other responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in finance, business administration or a related field is required. CIMA or similar professional qualification is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of four years of direct finance experience is required. Prior experience working in nonprofit/NGO finance is preferred.
Related Skills and Knowledge:
1. Previous experience in and/or demonstrated knowledge of analytical finance, strategic financial planning, and/or management consulting with evidence of progressing responsibility, is required.
2. Advanced analytical skills and demonstrated experience with financial reports, data analysis, and visualization tools, such as PowerBI is required.
3. Excellent computer knowledge, including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and database systems is required.
4. Time-management skills, and ability to prioritize tasks while maintaining a strong attention to detail are required.
5. Ability to think beyond the numbers – identifying connections between financials/data and business drivers, drawing strategic and operational insights from organizational performance is required.
6. Self-motivation and the ability to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision, and work independently as well as function as a member of a team are required.
7. Excellent communication, creative problem-solving, and organization skills are required.
8. Effective oral and written communications skills in English are required.
9. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is necessary.
10. Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions is required.
11. Experience with NetSuite financial accounting system, PowerBI or other visualization tools, and Salesforce, is preferred.
12. Experience with AI or machine learning tools is preferred.
13. Proven interest in human rights is desirable.
Salary and Benefits: HRW seeks exceptional applicants and offers competitive compensation and employer-paid benefits. HRW offers a relocation assistance package and will assist employees in obtaining necessary work authorization, if required; citizens of all nationalities are encouraged to apply. If based in the United States, the salary range would be USD 68,000- 74,000. Salary ranges outside of the United States vary based on location.
