SONAR Test Engineer (611455)

We are seeking an Mid Level Test Engineer to support the Test and Evaluation (T&E) of U.S. Navy submarines and weapon systems for Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport RI, which includes test planning, execution and reporting for VIRGINIA Class submarines Developmental Test & Evaluation (DT&E) and Weapons System Accuracy Trials (WSAT). Home office will be Groton, CT

For all candidates: Navy experience is required.

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Identify system requirements for verification and validation.
• Define and validate resources needed to test system requirements.
• Support test execution by confirming that required resources are scheduled and available.
• Design creative solutions and proposing alternative approaches when desired resources are not available.
• Perform technical writing to include test procedures, plans and reports.
• Support various working groups and meetings.
• Travel is required roughly 20% of the time.
• Provide onboard support during at-sea test execution
• Ability to support underway events onboard US Naval vessels

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong organizational and analytical skills as well as practical problem-solving and decision making-skills. Ability to work well under pressure and be able to manage multiple projects and issues simultaneously.
  Basic computer operation skills to support system operations and issue reporting.
• Physical requirements require the ability to climb vertical ladders, maneuver on and around Navy vessels, and the ability to lift 50 LBS.
• Operational and Technical knowledge of Submarine SONAR Systems.
• Strong technical writing proficiency.
• For all candidates: Navy experience is required.

Education/Experience

• 10 years minimum US Navy submarine SONAR technical schools required experience
• College coursework is a plus but not required.

Security Clearance

This position requires the applicant to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance.

Physical and Mental Requirements for all positions: 
• Prolonged stationary periods at a desk
• General ability to operate computer and other productivity machinery such as calculator, copy machine, printer, etc.
• Ability to lift and transport up to 15 pounds at times 
• Effectively communicate with others
• Ability to stay focused and provide attention to detail. 
• Ability to think analytically and apply problem solving skills to scenarios throughout the course of the workday
