We in the Insights Team responsible for SMS Categorization, Fraud detection and other Smart SMS features within the Truecaller app. The OTP & bank notifications, bill & travel reminder alerts are some examples of the Smart SMS features. The team has developed a patented offline text parser that powers all these features and the team is also exploring cutting edge technologies like LLM to enhance the Smart SMS features. The team’s mission is to become the World’s most loved and trusted SMS app which is aligned with Truecaller’s vision to make communication safe and efficient. Smart SMS is used by over 80M users every day. The responsibility of the Staff Android Engineer would be to help the team scale these features across different countries and languages while keeping all information private on the user’s device.

As a Staff Android Engineer you will be leading and developing features that help our Android app to grow in our mature markets as well as new markets. The role involves guiding the engineering team in the exploration, development and implementation of new solutions and iterations. An ideal candidate is an inspiring leader - an expert in tech, communication and bringing great product development practices to the team. You'll be responsible for architecture, code quality, and delivery cadence for the features we build in the team.

What you bring in

• 2+ years of relevant experience - as a senior / staff engineer 
• 5+ years of experience in Android development with Java, Kotlin, Coroutines and Dependency injection.
• Experience in designing and architecting high scale Android applications. 
• Experience with Object oriented programming
• Strong knowledge of SQL databases
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git 
• In-Depth understanding and hands-on experience in Android application development (architectures, design, tools, SDKs)
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs
• Experience in debugging and performance improvements.
• Excellent to-the-point communication skills in English.

• Provide key input in prioritization and scope of key products.
• Communicate complex decisions in a clear way, reason well between pros and cons of considered solutions.
• Mentor and guide the engineers, ensuring that they grow their technical skill and cultural fit.
• Write code with great code standards
• Deliver complex features on both front-end intensive tasks and performance improvements on the existing code base
• Cover the code implementations with tests and improve the code coverage
• Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions
• Bring engineering experience to advise product and business teams to make better decisions
• Mentor the junior developers, take ownership of maintaining high engineering standards and growth mindset in the team
• Be the point of contact and liaise with release team on continuous delivery of high quality code and timely resolution of bugs
• Keep up to date with the latest trends, technology and tools, making sure that the team works in optimal conditions.

It would be great if you also have:

• Firebase tools such as remote config, AB testing, crashlytics
• Experience in Architecting multiple high scale applications. 
• Experience with Data structures and Semantic Matching algorithms.
