Data Science Lead - Berlin (m/f/x)

We are a fast-growing team. You will be joining us at a hugely exciting time as we have just launched our fully-reimbursed solution to 9 million people living with type 2 diabetes in Germany. There will be opportunities to shape the direction of the company from the start.

Tasks

Working closely with our medical, product and tech leads, you will help shape how we look at data, be it glucose data, nutritional data, and beyond. You will continue the development of a world-class data science environment characterised by quick iterations of data discovery and modelling, enabling the delivery of state-of-the-art machine learning models to advance our products. In collaboration with our product and tech leads, you will determine the ideal team structure to make rapid progress in uncovering unique metabolic phenotypes so people living with metabolic dysfunction can better understand their condition, and you will hire the best people to join you. Working remotely in or around Berlin, or in our Berlin office, you are ready to hit the ground running, whether it's getting your hands on code, strategising, continuously expanding your skill set, or explaining technical issues simply and understandably to non-technical colleagues. You enjoy brainstorming and are up for getting involved across the product development cycle. Most importantly, you are motivated by the potential to improve the health of the millions of people that live with metabolic illnesses such as diabetes.

Requirements

Must have skills

• Ability to bridge / move between data science and biomedical informatics / engineering
• Line management and mentoring experience of data scientists
• Advanced understanding of a programming language in order to solve data-related challenges, preferably Python (and ability to leverage its ecosystem, e.g. using libraries like NumPy, SciPy, NLTK, TensorFlow, visualisation libraries, and so on)
• Advanced knowledge in data science, data mining, data modelling, machine learning, NLP, information extraction & information retrieval, as well as data warehousing
• Good basic knowledge in data structures & algorithms
• Ability to work in a team that focuses on knowledge sharing, learning, and mentoring
• Good communication skills in English

Desirable skills

• Experience in setting up the strategic direction for a data science team
• Experience in recruitment of data scientists
• Knowledge in setting up cloud platform solutions for data science
