Middle School Basketball Coaches
Trevor Day School is seeking Middle School Basketball Coaches for both girls and boys teams who demonstrate a high level of competency in sport-skill instruction, motivation, ability to teach strategies, competitive concepts of the sport, and the ability to build community and team spirit. Coaches must also have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents/guardians, and student-athletes.
Middle School coaches are stipended positions running during the Winter season (October 30– March 1). Middle School practices are scheduled three days a week (6th grade is Monday, Wednesday, Friday and 7/8th grade is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday). Practices are generally held between 1-4pm. Game days may run later than regular practice hours. Trevor has a unique three-week MiniTerm that runs from February 22nd through March 15th, which will necessitate flexible hours.
Responsibilities:
Attend all practices and competitions.
Provide skill-building sessions, team practices, and individual coaching to enhance students' sport-specific abilities and teamwork.
Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes sportsmanship, respect, and collaboration.
Travel with teams to and from Trevor for competitions during the season.
Attend all necessary athletic and school meetings and events.
Manage athletic administrative duties such as attendance, roster management, score reporting, distribution and collection of uniforms, and team-specific events.
Display leadership, professional behavior, and communication in dealings with student-athletes, parents, staff, and administrators.
Provide feedback to student-athletes on a regular basis regarding skill development and opportunities for growth.
Exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with adherence to Trevor’s mission as well as NYSAIS, NYCAL, and Trevor Athletics rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree; minimum of one year of relevant coaching experience.
Strong understanding of sport-specific skills and strategies.
Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Growth mindset and passion for learning.
Positive, enthusiastic, collaborative approach.
Excellent organizational and communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
Candidates must exhibit enthusiasm for the role of athletics in an independent school setting, vision and creativity, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Candidates must complete 1) the Center for Disease Control’s HEADS up concussion awareness training, and 2) First Aid/AED/CPR certification before the start of the season.

Trevor has various teams at the Middle School, Junior Varsity, and Varsity levels. A large percentage of our students participate in interscholastic athletics, an essential part of their Trevor experience and education. We are a member of the New York City Athletic League (NYCAL), which operates within the NYSAIS Athletic Association. Our teams and athletes compete successfully at the league, city, and state levels. Trevor has state-of-the-art athletic facilities, including three gyms and training areas with fitness equipment. We also value our local partnerships with top-level athletic facilities to ensure all of our student-athletes have opportunities to build confidence and success.
Trevor’s Athletics program emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and character development.
