Senior Software Engineer

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer to deliver fantastic ideas, elegant solutions and help to define and build our next generation ecommerce platform. This role works closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, Front End Engineers and Quality Assurance Engineers to define requirements, iterate on designs, solve technical problems and ultimately produce high-quality code as part of great-looking and user-friendly applications that deliver value to Visualsoft and our clients alike.

There will be an opportunity to work on features and projects in a number of different areas including our eCommerce storefronts, our client admin system, various API-based microservices and also our cross-platform mobile applications.

Requirements

What you'll be doing:

• Collaborate as part of a fluid Agile team structure where cross-functional squads are formed based on product roadmaps
• Developing new microservices, functionality and systems that will complement our main ecommerce platforms.
• Use the latest technologies in order to deliver great new solutions and practical improvements, both long term and short term.
• Supporting existing functionality, with an eye to identifying improvements and truly taking things to the next level
• Define functional product requirements alongside Product Managers and Technical Leads
• Work with Quality Automation Engineers and Manual Testers in order to ensure your code is as robust as possible
• Support, coach and mentor more junior colleagues to knowledge share and build strong, resilient and resourceful teams
• Exhibit and celebrate the team’s achievements to fellow Engineers and other stakeholders during sprint demos
• Provide written, and where applicable, other forms of documentation to support your work, to aid users as well as colleagues
• Involvement with help and support via our Service Desk function to keep our clients on track
• KPI's - Ensuring the timely delivery of the team’s roadmap

What we'd love to see:

Some essentials

• Thorough knowledge of modern PHP frameworks (Laravel, Symfony etc.)
• Extensive relevant commercial or open source experience in a software or web engineering background
• Excellent object-oriented approach to writing testable code and awareness of SOLID principles
• Strong MySQL database knowledge and an ability to write efficient SQL queries
• Understanding of modern software design patterns
• JavaScript
• Experience consuming web services & APIs
• Code versioning (e.g. GitHub)
• Experience with automated testing such as PHPUnit, Pest or similar PHP-based testing tools.
• Familiarity with general engineering working practices such as pull requests, code reviews
• Exposure to Continuous Integration/Delivery pipelines and working patterns

Desirable, but not essential

• Any knowledge of technologies such as Redis, ElasticSearch, Sphinx, NGINX, Apache etc.
• Prior experience in developing & deploying projects using Docker containers and Kubernetes
• Understanding of core SEO principles
• Experience with JS Frameworks (e.g. VueJS/Angular.js/React)
• Tailwind CSS
• Web Performance (specifically Core Web Vitals)
• Web Components
• Previous experience in working in Agile teams
