RN - OR

Position Summary : The OR Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who has clinical and administrative responsibility for the Operating Room. Planning, executing, directing and evaluating clinical care given to the surgical patient in the OR. Will have contact with the patient in each phase of care in the center.

Qualifications:

• Licensed in the State as a registered professional nurse (RN) or licensed practice nurse (LPN)
• Preferred CNOR from AORN; evidence of continuing education.
• Current BLS and ACLS required (PALS if applicable)
• Recent Operating Room experience required.
• Language skills: Ability to read, write and communicate effectively both written and orally.
• Must have an effective working relationship who co-workers, Physicians and patients

Responsibilities:

• .
• Knowledge of principles of asepsis, infection control and universal precautions. Reduces chances of nosocomial infection by directing attention to infection control and environmental safety practices.
• Knowledge in the use of equipment and instrumentation specific to the OR, as well as cleaning, of the same.
• Knowledge of surgical procedures and specific nursing care for a wide variety of surgical specialties.
• Monitors and assesses the physical status of the patient through personal observation and interaction.
• Assesses and responds to the individual, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient and significant others.
• Responsible for checking OR consent for 100% compliance.
• May assist with patient admission.
• Acts as patient advocate in the coordination of patient care.
• Utilizes supplies, equipment, and resources to contain cost without compromising

delivery of care.
Help with OR turnover after each case.

• Utilizes professional nursing judgment, takes action to implement the nursing care

plan and resolve the problems identified for the individual patient.

• Reports and documents information accurately and in a timely manner.
• Seeks guidance, direction and assistance where needed. Follows Center policy and
• procedure at all times.
• Communicates a positive and caring attitude toward patient, peers, staff and all other
• Ensures that the Code carts are fully equipped, defibrillators are in operational readiness and that daily checks are completed.
• Changes gas cylinders as necessary to maintain medical gas system integrity.
• Ensures communication of need for replacement tanks or system problems. Monitors gas outlets for shutoff at end of each day.
• Prepares nursing and operative documentation for each patient.
• Check all suction outlets and monitors to insure they are all functioning properly.

Work Environment and Hazards :
Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous substances, and the risk of physical injury from moving/ lifting patients and equipment, as well as operation of equipment. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Contact may involve with dealing with sick/and or persons under high stress/anxiety. While
occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and or toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
