Our client is a leading provider of airline catering and related services in Kenya, operating at major airports. In addition to producing meals for local and international airlines, it offers a range of services, including cabin cleaning, laundry services, logistics and in-flight product management.

Job Purpose

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Technical Manager with a strong business sense to join their team. This role is responsible for enhancing service quality, equipment reliability and availability by improving workflows and optimising maintenance work processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all maintenance operations and ensure that all plant machinery is serviced and in working order. The job holder additionally will be charge of uninterrupted and cost-effective availability of infrastructure, equipment, utilities and spares. The scope of work includes curative, preventative and predictive maintenance.
  • Ascertain that daily pre-operative and start-up checks on machines are carried out. Identify downtime root causes and resolve all issues and assist team members to implement all changes.
  • Ensure machinery and facility maintenance is carried out in accordance with the Company policies and that high standards are maintained. This includes the administration and resolution of all technical maintenance issues.
  • Design all preventive maintenance programs in coordination with Technical and Motor Workshop staff. Prepare schedules for all production operations and assist in installation and maintenance of all machines and tools.
  • Maintain an efficient and safe working environment for all employees whilst overseeing compliance with Environment, Health & Safety principles and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance to all state and statutory regulations and design appropriate plant maintenance programs to minimize all downtime. Perform regular audits on all safety control programs.
  • Prepare reports for all client activities and ensure compliance to statutory requirements.
  • Maintain and review everyday logs and assist to resolve all issues and provide support to all engineering activities and participate in all facilities maintenance meetings.
  • Monitor all capital improvement projects and organize various performance appraisals and recommend training programs as per requirement.
  • Manage the team’s performance and development by planning training programs. Prepare all short and long-term programs and ensure achievement of all objectives within required budget.
  • Review and recommend improvements of all standard operating procedures.

  • Fault diagnosis and repeat job minimisation.

Minimum Performance Indicators

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electro - Mechanical Engineering or related field from a recognised institution.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in plant operation management.
  • Experience in drafting, executing and managing budgets.

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Leadership skills: experience in managing a large team, some working remotely
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in working with CMMS tools

  • External stakeholders: Consultants, contractors and utility companies
