About the Internship - Spring 2025
Controls Engineering Intern will get hands-on experience of being a part of the Propulsion Team to design, integrate, and test control algorithms for Lightship’s propulsion system. You will be working with other control engineers developing sensors, designing control algorithms, while working with traction motors, power converters and high-voltage battery packs along with deploying the propulsion controls on our trailers and testing them in real-time on the road.
Responsibilities
- Help develop control architectures for Lightship’s propulsion system.
- Integrate and test with rapid control prototyping equipment.
- Work with the SW team to implement and test control algorithms.
- Work closely with the Mechanical Team to work on sensor development and integration.
- Perform road testing and analyze and process test data.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be attending an accredited Master’s / PhD program in Electrical or Mechanical engineering.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Excellent understanding of control system theory.
- Understanding of electrical schematics and control circuitry.
- Familiar with communication protocol such as CAN, and I2C.
- Highly experienced with the usage of Matlab/Simulink.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of vehicle dynamics and motor controls for traction applications.
- Understanding of power electronics and is comfortable with embedded programming.
- Comfortable with high voltage test equipment.
- Experience with rapid control prototyping equipment (RCP) such as dSPACE is highly preferred.
- Motivated and dedicated to lead and own your work.
- Be a team player and enjoys working in a fast paced environment.
- Comfortable with uncertainty.
Internship Dates
Lightship is targeting a 3-4 month internship in Spring 2025. We are willing to work with candidates on exact timing.
