Job title: Laboratory Operations Technician II
Job Summary
Ophthalmology Discovery Research group is looking for a motivated individual to manage lab operations. This position will be based in Irvine, California, and the candidate will have the opportunity to become part of a growing, dynamic team. The successful candidate will plan, coordinate, and execute logistical lab operations. Primary duties include ordering and managing reagents and supplies and managing department space and equipment. In addition to providing support for scientists, this position will require interactions with EH&S, Managed Lab Services, Facilities & Corporate Engineering.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Order processing and management
2. Reagent organizational systems management (plasmids, primers, cell lines, antibodies)
3. Space management
4. Tracking research lab equipment including inactive, new, and scheduling movement, maintenance, repair, or calibration
5. Scheduling technician visits and escorting the technicians into lab space
6. Maintaining lab freezers and the freezer alarm system
7. Facilitating safety inspections and general lab orderliness
8. New employee orientation
9. Tracking and ordering compressed gases
10. Provide lab-related communications/updates to the team
11. Collaborating with scientists to resolve lab-related operational issues
Qualifications:
1. A college degree in Life Science or Chemistry (Associate degree with equivalent work experience will also be considered)
2. Previous laboratory work experience is required (college lab experience will be considered)
3. Must have good computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
4. Must be comfortable handling chemicals and research materials
5. Must possess good, organizational, and time-management skills and have good attention to detail
6. Must possess good written and oral communication skills
7. Must be a self-starter, proactive, and able to work independently and within a team environment
