About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Payroll Manager to join our rapidly growing Accounting team The Payroll Manager will lead our company's payroll function, taking ownership of all aspects of payroll. This role requires a candidate with strong leadership abilities, excellent organizational skills, and a deep understanding of best practices for payroll processes, systems, and resourcing. The Payroll Manager will gain exposure to senior-level decision-making and develop lasting relationships across the company.

- Oversee bi-weekly multi-state payroll for US exempt and nonexempt employees
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll related regulations
- Lead the development and oversight of key projects to increase automation, consistency, accuracy, and integrity of payroll systems and operations
- Act as primary payroll contact for establishment of new payrolls, implementation of tax and regulatory changes, process changes, management of earning/deduction codes and system enhancements
- Work with payroll vendor to ensure pay disbursements, tax deposits, and tax filings are completed accurately and timely
- Partner with HR leadership to drive process improvement projects to streamline and automate workflows
- Manage payroll-related projects, including year-end preparation and payroll tax issue resolution
- Develop a collaborative and productive partnership with People team (Human Resources), Accounting, Finance, Legal, and other internal teams to deliver an exceptional onboarding and payroll experience
- Manage ad-hoc deliverables to support cross-functional teams (i.e. FP&A, Legal,Tax) and audits
A Bit About You
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of leading payroll teams in processing payroll for exempt and nonexempt employees as well as independent contractors
- Strong technical payroll and payroll system working knowledge along with documentation of policies and controls.
- Ability to work with databases and organize and synthesize large amounts of payroll data.
- Strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills.
- Have an in-depth understanding of ADP Workforce Now and Workday
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources or related fields required
- Demonstrated strong leadership experience
- Intermediate proficiency in G Suite and Microsoft Office
- Experience working in a fast-past changing environment
- Ability to effectively work across teams, both within the accounting functions, and across the organization
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work; work well under pressure to meet deadlines – must be comfortable getting into the details
Preferred Qualifications:
- An active Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) is a plus
- Healthcare industry experience a plus
- Experience working within multiple payroll systems

- Moving about to accomplish tasks and/or moving from one worksite to another.
- Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.
- Operating motor vehicles.
- Occasional sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing/driving/flying
Salary and Benefits
Salary Range: $97,600 - $122,000
Commission Eligible: No
Equity Eligible: Yes
Travel: Yes - Required up to 10% of the time
Location Requirement: Employment at Alto is limited to individuals residing in the following states: California, Connecticut, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, Illinois, New York, Kansas, Texas, Maryland, Washington (WA), Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin.
