Requirements

Job Purpose

As the direct tax manager for the UK Porsche entities you will be responsible for the management of the Company’s direct tax obligations and will divide your time across two substantial operational business whilst ensuring where synergies exist they are applied consistently across both businesses. The role requires at all times to ensure integrity and compliance with all applicable legislation and group tax policy, with a full understand of the direct tax risks the businesses face and how the risks are controlled and mitigated. The role requires the provision of robust advice to the operational and financial areas of the business where direct taxation must be considered.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepare and submit the Company’s annual Corporation Tax Returns and calculate the quarterly instalment payments.
  • Prepare and where necessary submit the annual PAYE settlement agreements, Taxed Award Scheme Returns and working closely with the finance department(s) and HR Payroll Team on the preparation of the Annual P11D returns.  Continually monitor tax legislative changes and particular horizon scan for those changes that will impact the sales and retail sales operations Provide regular updates to the finance leads in the business and other relevant stakeholders such as Human Resources.
  • Where necessary provide insight and explanations/training to the wider operational functions, working with the risk analysts to update tax RACM’s and Group tax systems (IMPERO).  Manage HMRC visits with SAO’s and any subsequent tax enquiries, ensuring management is aware of potential risks and escalating to PAG where necessary under Directive P12.
  • Manage the transfer price position of both Companies (within the current UK framework and group requirements). Ensure all relevant documentation is kept up to date and reporting obligations are met and recorded for tax compliance. Risks should be continually monitored and communicated to appropriate departments locally and in Porsche Germany, particularly to   Return on Sales targets.
  • Maintain and update Porsche’s tax strategy and ensure it is in line with the wider group, ensuring an open relationship is maintained with HMRC, promoting trust and transparency with the key objective of maintaining HMRC’s assessment of the businesses as Low Risk wherever possible.
  • Work with local stakeholders (Payroll and finance teams) to ensure all other HMRC reporting requirements and information requests are submitted as required, For example Short Term Business visitors, Country by Country Reporting. As part of the annual corporate and local statutory reporting prepare annual current and deferred tax calculations for the businesses, work with external auditors and work with finance function to ensure accounting disclosures in statutory accounts are correct. Work with other stakeholders (Finance etc.) to ensure compliance from a tax perspective with other schemes in operation within the business. For example, the “Employee Car Ownership Scheme” and the traditional Company Car schemes, expense payments are taxed correctly through payroll.
  • At all times maintain policies, procedures, and the design of the operating effectiveness of the tax controls to ensure the businesses are compliant with tax legislation and the wider group requirements, evidence is maintained and submitted as required to Group. Working closely with SAO to ensure certifications are complete and contain appropriate wording at submission The business desires continual improvement and developments.

Interaction with internal and external stakeholders:

  • Work collaboratively with all key stakeholders locally (UK and wider Group), developing and building relationships at all levels across the organisation.
  • Manage and develop the partner relationship with PAG and where necessary build relationships with appropriate external advisors and HMRC.
  • Take responsibility for personal development needs in anticipation of business requirements and CPD requirements.
  • Always maintain a positive working environment.

 

Requirements

The individual will should be confident in their ability to operate and work with all levels within the organisation with a proven ability to communicate and engage with multiple stakeholders across multiple disciplines.

Able to bring and present new ideas that support the objectives of the businesses in a tax effective way but within the businesses risk appetite.

Understand the sales distribution function and the challenges that a Retail Business faces , balanced against compliance and system limitations.

The individual should be Chartered Tax Advisor (“CTA”) and/or qualified accountant (ACA/ ACCA) with a minimum of 5 years’ qualification experience, ideally gained in a sales organisation or retail environment.

Must be able to demonstrate a proven commercial awareness of the impact of tax issues on the business, with the ability to communicate with stakeholders that are not tax specialists and guide stakeholders during tax audits and investigations.
