---THE POSITION---
The Secondary Assistant Principals at Science Park are pivotal in fostering a thriving educational environment. They are key educational leaders dedicated to enhancing student learning through collaboration with faculty. As members of the schoolwide Learning Leaders Team, the Assistant Principals play a crucial role in developing and implementing consistent, data-driven systems that support articulated student learning across AISG. This role encompasses shared responsibilities for maintaining a safe, secure, and nurturing learning environment, ensuring the effective implementation of a written curriculum, and achieving both schoolwide and phase-specific goals.
The position is divided between two individuals who share key responsibilities across programs and initiatives for grades 6-12. Together with the Principal, the Assistant Principals form the Science Park Secondary Operational Team, working collaboratively to meet the needs of the school community. Specific responsibilities are distributed based on each Assistant Principal’s area of focus and various programs and initiatives. The Principal, in consultation with the Assistant Principals, will strive to balance the workload equitably, aligning it with both the needs of the school and the professional growth objectives of the Assistant Principals.

---ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES---
School Culture and Student Support
· Develop and oversee the implementation of a developmentally appropriate advisory program, including China Trips and transition programs, in collaboration with counselors and Holistic Development Leaders (HDLs) to create a progressive curriculum supporting students' academic, social, and behavioral growth aligned with the Learner Profile.
· Ensure a comprehensive and responsive Child Protection Program is in place, including training, maintaining records, and referring cases to administration or authorities as appropriate.
· Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) by nurturing a culturally sensitive and inclusive school community.
· Support and advance international-mindedness throughout the school community, fostering global awareness and cultural understanding.
· Communicate with internal and external communities to maintain strong school-home partnerships.
· Work collaboratively with the Student Support Systems and Language Acquisition Coordinators to ensure fidelity to the Multitiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process, including interventions for students of concern
· Oversee restorative justice practices as well as attendance monitoring, ensuring accurate documentation and clear communication with caregivers.
Faculty Leadership and Support
· Supervise and evaluate faculty, providing timely and constructive, strengths-focused feedback to promote professional growth.
· Lead the team of Holistic Development Leaders (HDLs), to ensure the successful implementation of the advisory program for student development.
· Support Professional Learning Community Leaders and IB Coordinators to ensure departmental alignment with school mission, vision, and goals, including budget development and overseas ordering.
· Support the onboarding of new faculty and staff, and organize orientation and professional development for all faculty and support staff, coordinating with Human Resources and School Operations to ensure a smooth transition and school opening.
· Assist in facilitating WASC re-accreditation and IB re-authorization processes as scheduled, guiding faculty through these and other key initiatives, providing data and evidence as called for.
· Support and advance the goals and initiatives of the division improvement plan, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
Logistics and Operations
· Serve on secondary operational and strategic leadership teams, contributing to schoolwide initiatives and goals.
· Assist in the development of schedules and timetables for classes, events, standardized testing, and other school functions as needed.
· Collect, maintain, and use data to support data-driven decision-making across all programs, ensuring instructional and operational decisions are evidence-based.
· Coordinate campus safety procedures (practice drills) to ensure a secure learning environment.
· Educate the community regarding the Student-Caregiver and Faculty/Staff Handbooks while also performing an annual review to ensure they reflect current and best practices.

FACILITIES
The Science Park campus is located in the heart of Guangzhou’s technology center, Science City, in Huangpu District, where Upper Elementary students (Grades 4 and 5) and Secondary students (Grades 6-12) attend. The Science Park campus finished its complete renovation in August 2023 and has state-of-the art, well-equipped facilities with an open-concept design. The campus also features a Performing Arts Center with at theater, black box, music classrooms, and practice rooms; an Athletic Center with a natural grass field, an indoor 25-meter swimming pool, two gymnasiums with three full-sized courts, a fitness room, a dance studio, two external climbing walls, an indoor running track, and two rooftop spaces; and additional amenities that include innovation labs and design centers, a cafeteria and cafe area, a nurse's office, a creative multimedia space, and a central library.
TECHNOLOGY
All classrooms are equipped with the appropriate technology for interactive instruction. Starting in Grade 1, students are in a 1:1 device program, iPads for Grades 1-5 and laptops for Grades 6-12. Teachers incorporate the ISTE Standards into their curriculum with the support of the innovation technology coaches. Technology is integrated where appropriate, and the development of research and information literacy skills is expected. Each teacher is assigned a MacBook laptop.
