About you
- As Product and Commercial Counsel, you’ll report to our Deputy General Counsel and play a crucial role in our marketing, intellectual property, product development, and commercial contract efforts. You’ll lead negotiation and management of commercial contracts and find ways to continually optimize our contracting processes. You’ll also work closely with our product and marketing teams to launch new product features, marketing campaigns, and promotions while balancing risk with a creator-first mindset.
The day-to-day
- Negotiate and draft a variety of contracts with vendors, partners, and service providers.
- Serve as the main point person to address issues relating to content policy and licensing.
- Manage and configure our contract management system to ensure accurate reporting and a friction-free process for our cross-functional partners.
- Advise on intellectual property matters, including issues relating to trademarks, copyrights, and patents.
- Manage VSCO’s trademark portfolio and work with outside counsel to develop and drive a trademark strategy.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements around sweepstakes, giveaways, and other promotions.
- Support the product-development process by issue spotting and suggesting practical solutions to legal questions.
- Assist on privacy-related matters as needed.
- Develop educational and training materials for cross-functional partners regarding relevant legal concepts and VSCO’s legal processes.
- Proactively support our Legal Department to continuously improve on our policies and processes.
Qualifications
- Law degree and license to practice law.
- Ability to drive clarity through ambiguity and remain agile through evolving business needs.
- Skilled at explaining complex legal concepts in a practical manner that’s easy to understand for non-legal professionals.
- Experience negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, and the ability to draft new templates for novel types of commercial deals.
- Understanding of the goals behind implementing a useful contract management system and the desire to configure the system to solve problems and add value to the business.
- Strong understanding of intellectual property, including trademark, copyright, and patents.
- Working knowledge of data privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA, and other regulations impacting platforms like VSCO, such as the EU Digital Services Act.
- Passionate about providing quality work product and helping your stakeholders achieve outcomes.
- 4-6 years of relevant experience.

Compensation
The base salary for this position may vary based on several factors, including the approved job level. The base salary range for this role is $172,000 - $185,000. Salary is one component of our total compensation package. This position also qualifies for equity (i.e. stock options) and is eligible for discretionary bonuses based on performance. The benefits available for this position include flexible time off, a 401K retirement plan, insurance (medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D, short and long term disability), and 11 paid holidays. We also provide paid sick time as required by state and local law. Additional benefits and perks contained in our standard employee benefits package are also offered for this position.
