Overview
Democracy Now! fellowships are full-time, one-year work placements with benefits including health, retirement and paid time off. The fellowships provide support and mentorship to underrepresented early-career journalists and digital media professionals, including BIPOC, people with disabilities and gender nonconforming people.
Democracy Now! is committed to building greater diversity in newsrooms and training the next generation of journalists. Fellows will develop skills and gain experience in a daily live TV news environment, and have the opportunity to bring their unique voices, perspectives and experiences into the newsroom. Democracy Now! staff provide one-on-one mentorship and supervision to help fellows maximize their exposure to newsroom, production and online publishing practices.
A successful Video News Production Fellow must have camera and video editing skills, work well under deadline pressure and have some news or editorial experience. They should be an avid consumer of daily global news, demonstrating a passion for Democracy Now!'s independent news mission and be a strong team player with a great attitude and a professional demeanor. Key duties include shooting news events, editing video news packages and working on the live broadcast.
The workday begins as early as 6:00 am ET, to coincide with the live daily TV & radio newscast at 8:00am ET.
