Purpose/Objective:Performs underwriting duties to issue decisions within authorized limits for all Government loans (i.e. FHA, VA, Rural Development), and residential mortgage loans within volume requirements and Bank, regulatory and compliance guidelines.
Key Accountabilities: - Approves and denies loans within authorized limits (listed below). Confirms accuracy of all submitted data and ensures compliance of submitted applications with all established Bank, regulatory and compliance guidelines. Generates credit reports and fully evaluates to determine credit worthiness. Performs additional research as necessary to clarify unusual information and is responsible for deciding if loan application should proceed to processing or be returned to origination source for additional documentation. 40%
- Calculates debt-to-income ratios and makes loan decisions in conjunction with automated system (if applicable) and within lending authority. Ensures loan decisions are processed within established timeframes and in accordance with bank policies and procedures and in compliance with all regulations. Effectively communicates with loan applicants, branch personnel and internal staff to explain terms of decision. Recommends possible rate/program adjustments to better meet the need of the borrower. Underwrites the required number of loan applications daily, as established by management. 40%
- Assists department in accessing and makes decisions for electronically submitted applications. Cross trains with Senior Underwriter to understand pricing, loan registration and delivery model and electronic application systems. Participates in various lender training programs in order to increase proficiency of origination sources and attends all required professional development as required. Assists in team development and special projects as required. 15%

Education:- High school diploma (or equivalent)
- Some college desirable
Experience:- FHA DE Underwriter, VA and Rural Housing experience preferred
- Minimum 5+ years of underwriting experience required
