Natural Resources Specialist (Recreation)

Position Description:
This is a 12-month program where you will be exposed to the Forest Service and specifically learn the ins and outs of the Developed/Dispersed Recreation process on the Salmon-Challis National Forest, which includes the largest wilderness area south of Alaska, the Frank-Church Wilderness of No Return. Your role will be the direct assistant to the Recreation Program Manager, helping with running the recreation program on the South end of the forest. This job will be a combination of office work and field work. This position will be supervising lower graded employees that do the cleaning and maintenance work in the developed campgrounds and areas in the forest that people disperse camp. During your time outside of work you will have the opportunity to recreate on our abundant public lands.



Duties:
  • Support all aspects of the Recreation Program.
  • Responsible for cleaning/maintenance schedules in campgrounds.
  • Assure that water samples are collected once a month in the campgrounds.
  • Assure that monies are collected in campgrounds weekly.
Qualifications:

Organized; detail-oriented; able to follow directions; able to function independently; good conversational skills; self-motivated to complete projects from start to finish; basic math skills; experience with data entry; higher level computer skills. No specific degree is advantageous over another; however, one must have some units of Biology to qualify. Someone with classroom experience in recreation management may find the work more rewarding.




Benefits:
  • $12.50/hour
  • $1,000/month Housing Stipend
  • Up to $2,750 available for Forest Service work travel, orientation, trainings, professional development opportunities that align with RA role and goals.
  • Direct Hire Authority Eligibility – after completing minimum of 960 hours, DHA status provides special non-competitive hiring status when applying for Forest Service positions.
  • Option for health insurance coverage during full-term
