TextNow is looking for a Senior VoIP Engineer to join our Core Experiences Team
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the backend services that power our high-traffic platform. You’ll work with technologies like FreeSWITCH, Kamailio, AWS, Golang, gRPC, Kubernetes, Terraform, and a microservice architecture to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our systems. Additionally, you'll be working with databases and event streaming platforms to handle high-volume data and real-time communication. Handling tens of millions of calls and messages daily, you'll focus on keeping our platform fast, responsive, and highly available. As a senior developer, you'll also have the opportunity to lead major initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and drive technical innovation within the team.
What You'll Do:
- Develop and maintain VOIP services and SIP infrastructure that scale to millions of users.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and build robust and scalable architectures.
- Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code in Golang.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring high uptime and reliability.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and drive best practices for performance and security.
- Participate in code reviews and provide mentorship to junior team members.
Who You Are:
- You have extensive experience working with Golang in a production environment.
- You have a deep understanding of VOIP technologies and telecommunications, with experience integrating and scaling VOIP services.
- You know and are proficient in VoIP troubleshooting tools, such as sngrep, wireshark, etc.
- You have deep knowledge of real-time communications protocols, such as SIP, SDP, WebRTC, RTP, etc.
- You have experience working with IaC and Configuration Management tools such as Terraform and Ansible
- You thrive in a collaborative environment and have a passion for solving complex technical challenges.
- You have experience working with distributed systems, microservices, and containerized environments.
- You have excellent communication skills and enjoy mentoring junior engineers.
Other Experience:
- Experience with VOIP and SIP platforms such as FreeSWITCH and Kamailio is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or similar.
- Experience with high-availability and disaster recovery practices.
- Knowledge of database technologies (SQL/NoSQL).
Nice to Haves:
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of microservices patterns and best practices.
- Experience with security practices, particularly in the context of VOIP and telecommunications systems.
