Job Title: Health, Environmental, Safety and Security (HESS) Manager

JOB SUMMARY: The HESS Manager combines knowledge of engineering and of health and safety to develop procedures and design systems to protect people from illness and injury and property from damage. The HESS Manager will be intimately involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures and makes environmental, health and safety recommendations accordingly.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Develop, maintain, and manage Nammo’s HESS program to support the organization
2. Lead the HESS management council and administers the internal HESS audit program.
3. Possess a thorough understanding of HESS local/regional regulations and company policy.
4. Primary subject matter expert of Process Safety Management applying strong problem solving and critical thinking, bringing a new perspective to existing problems and solutions.
5. Ability to impact a range of stakeholders, including customers, executives, peers, visitors, and site personnel.
6. Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance to all applicable HESS Policies to provide for a hazard-free workplace for Nammo’s employees, visitors, and contractors.
7. Measure the site performance against company requirements in environmental, health, safety, and security areas.
8. Analyze HESS metrics leading to the discovery of trends, and drive improvement plans to closure to minimize risk and improve performance.
9. Ensure environmental programs and systems are maintained and improved, including the management of environmental and hazardous material permits and plans.
10. Create and maintain practices, procedures, training, and management controls to ensure work is planned and conducted in a safe manner in accordance with federal and local regulatory requirements.
11. Support Nammo’s emergency response control plans and team to provide emergency response plans.
12. Implement and contribute to the maintenance and continuous improvement of the site’s HESS training program.
13. Implement a health, environmental, safety and security management system.
14. Provide subject matter support to the line organization for workplace health and safety issues/concerns.
15. Proactive in advising management on HESS matters.
16. Sustain the explosive safety management program.
17. Ability to respond to emergencies during off hours as needed.
18. Sustain the process hazard assessment and job hazard assessment programs.
19. Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Health & Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related degree.
2. Four (4) years’ experience in Health, Environmental & Safety manufacturing and/or equipment design environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Certified Safety Professional (ASP / CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to adapt in fast paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy
2. Ability to communicate both written and oral, with customers and associates.
3. Ability to critically think, self-guide, and educate others.
4. Ability to influence without authority.
5. Knowledge in the explosive industry and DoD4145.26M.
6. Knowledge of explosive safety
7. Knowledge of Industrial Hygiene methods and standards.
8. Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, local environmental and safety regulations or standards for a manufacturing and research & development environment.

10. Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
1. Must submit to and pass a drug test pursuant to Company Drug-Free Workplace Policy which includes random testing
2. Must have good vision (may be corrected)
3. Must have no known hearing loss (may be corrected)
4. Must be able to stand/walk for prolonged periods of time
5. Must be able to sit
6. Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing and the ability to travel frequently
7. Must be able to endure sunshine and weather extremes
8. Must be able to endure fumes that are within OSHA accepted standards
9. Must have stamina to work more than the scheduled workday when needed, including nights and weekends
10. Must be able to pick up, handle, and otherwise work paper
11. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate (<85 dBA), however in some instances this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary
