PLEASE NOTE: This is not a remote position. Candidates must be willing to live in or relocate to the Reno-Tahoe area. There is one position open, and both internal and external applicants will be considered.

The Position

In this on-site role you will assist the IT Security Manager with the research, analysis, preparation, adoption, and maintenance of the RTAA cyber security plans, policies, procedures, and activities.

Examples of Duties

  • Investigate and document IT systems, processes, users, and IT supply chain providers in the preparation of a comprehensive IT Asset Inventory.
  • Participate in the analysis, evaluation, and prioritization of IT assets to create and maintain a Comprehensive Risk Analysis.
  • Conduct research, recommend, and apply IT security policies and controls to IT assets using a methodical, risk-based approach.
  • Audit IT systems, processes, and user activities to ensure compliance with cyber policies, procedures, practices, and regulations.
  • Conduct, evaluate, and communicate results of regular awareness training campaigns.
  • Monitor event-driven security monitoring tools, including Intrusion Protection System (IPS), Intrusion Detection System (IDS), Security Incident and Event Monitoring (SIEM), and Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) systems. Establish baselines, summarize data, and prepare and deliver reports.
  • Research and investigate anomalous system activities and behavior. Work with third-party providers to identify, investigate and remediate cyber-related incidents and attacks.
  • Perform and assist with various Cyber Security Incident Response Plan functions and activities, including forensics research, communications, remediation, restoration, reporting, and ongoing plan revision.
  • Assist in the development of Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Operations plans to restore RTAA systems and networks following business interruption.
  • Review and maintain compliance with cyber security-related regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Assist in the execution of incident response tabletop exercises.
  • Serve as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Assistant Information Security Coordinator.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of information systems theory, concepts, and terminology, including networking and information security theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of cyber security theory, concepts, and terminology.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions and implement recommendations in support of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information in technical, mathematical, graphical, financial, and legal documents.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical issues with management staff and airport community stakeholders, using a variety of written and verbal forms.
  • Ability to write reports, memos, and other documents that conform to prescribed formats.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Information Systems, Computer Science or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of directly related IT systems and technologies implementation experience may be substituted on a year for year basis (e.g., one year of full-time experience will be considered equivalent to thirty (30) semester or (45) quarter units of college course work).

Required Experience: Two (2) years of full-time employment in a cyber security-related position.

Preferred Certifications: Relevant industry certifications, such as: COMPTIA CYSA+, International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2) CISSP; Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) GSEC

Required Licenses: A valid Driver’s License is required at the time of application.

Entry Salary: $79,997 - $100,796 annually, with performance based annual increases up to $121,595. Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications. This position is salaried and is exempt from overtime.

Selection Procedure

Pre-Employment Requirements: The RTAA requires each candidate to successfully complete employment history verification prior to being considered for employment. All employment offers are subject to successful completion/passing of a drug-screening test, a fingerprint criminal history records check, and security badging test.

Review of Application: After submission, the application will be reviewed to determine if it is complete and if minimum qualifications are met. For those applicants found to meet minimum qualifications, the next step of the process will be an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information regarding education and experience to enable evaluation of the application.

Interview Process: Based on the application evaluation process, only the most qualified applicants will be considered for an interview. The interview process may include an initial panel interview, followed by subsequent assessment exercises to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks and/or employment interviews with other RTAA personnel.

Pre-Employment Requirements: The RTAA requires each candidate to successfully complete employment history verification prior to being considered for employment. All employment offers are subject to successful completion/passing of a drug-screening test, a fingerprint criminal history records check, and an Airport Security Badging test.
