As an Engineering Manager at Justworks, you will oversee a team of Software Engineers and work closely with Designers and Product Managers. You are responsible for coordinating projects, prioritization, and engineers to create and maintain features for our customers. This role requires a strong technical background and a passion for mentoring and growing teams.

About the Team

The Growth team’s mission is to enable sustainable growth for Justworks and its customers. While this includes much territory, we are primarily focused on the mission-critical moments in the new customer journey that inform customer acquisition and onboarding. As a member of the team, you’ll dive deep into this domain, crafting elegant and functional customer experiences, while leveraging technology and know-how to optimize our internal tools and processes. We work regularly with a variety of business teams to understand their goals and challenges, as well as with other product and technology teams to utilize cross-functional platform enablement features.

Your Success Profile

What You Will Work On

• Work with the Engineers, Designers, and Product Managers to prioritize, schedule and execute projects so we can quickly develop and ship new features
• Work with the team to build a scalable process to delivery iteratively with consistent velocity
• Communicate and coordinate with other teams in and out of engineering to understand the requirements and opportunities for improvement
• Coach and provide guidance, both technical and non-technical, to direct reports
• Help recruit, source, interview and hire for the entire engineering team

• Mentor engineers to help them grow their technical skills by fostering a culture of  technical excellence, innovation and continuous learning 

• Instill a sense of empathy in the team for our internal stakeholders to create better user experiences with an eye towards making workflows easier and more efficient
• Hold regular 1:1s with team members and proactively share and receive feedback to achieve performance goals

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience managing a team of software engineers
• Minimum of 8 years of experience as a software engineer working on production web applications
• Demonstrable experience in prioritizing, crafting, and achieving plans
• Strong communication skills with the ability to grasp and explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical people
• Strong leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team
• Solid experience in Agile/Lean practices and working closely with product management
• High levels of empathy and interpersonal skills

The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $205,000.00 to $220,000.00 per year.
