Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety Technician

Hours: 8:00am to 5:00pm

Description:
Client is seeking an environmental, health and safety technician. Candidate should have basic working knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations. Additional on-site training will be provided.
Candidate will support and implement programs and work procedures related to environmental control, including virgin chemical and hazardous material handling, hazardous and special waste procedures, air quality procedures, hazardous materials transportation, and water program procedures (drinking water, wastewater, and storm water).
Knowledge of safe chemical handling, potential hazards, chemical properties, environmental sampling methods and spill containment and control and compatibility is required. The use of various types of appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., respirators, gloves, safety shoes, chemical resistant clothing) will be required in the performance of job tasks.
Trains and directs the work of other employees in the environmental control policies of the company.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Implementing specific work procedures as directed related to environmental control.
Packaging, labeling, and marking of chemical/waste containers and preparation of hazardous material shipments.
Maintain and operate chemical/gas storage, hazardous waste storage area, empty container storage, and environmental supplies. Maintain security and cleanliness of these areas.
Maintain an inventory of supplies and tools related to environmental control (e.g., chemical containers and drums, sampling supplies, labeling and marking supplies, tools and equipment).
Environmental sampling (e.g., storm water, wastewater, hazardous and solid waste).
Transferring chemicals (both virgin and waste) to and from container or process equipment.
Provide guidance to other employees regarding proper environmental control.
Elementary neutralization of acids or bases, solvent recycling, and other chemical treatments (e.g., carbon filtration).
Assist in the cleanup of chemical spill and leaks.
Perform and document inspections and maintain other recordkeeping (e.g., sampling records, drum logs, neutralization logs) as required to demonstrate compliance with policy and regulations.
Collects and maintain universal waste and recycled materials
Delivers chemicals to work areas and returns expired chemicals to the chemical room
Maintains and inspects emergency equipment as assigned
Provides support to EHSS as needed
The above duties shall be performed in a conscientious and responsible manner to ensure personnel safety, the safety of other employees, and company property in compliance with environmental regulations and company policy. This is a non-sedentary job.

Required Skills:
Minimum experience and skills absolutely necessary (Be as specific as possible, these should not contain comparative or non-objective skills): Must be well-organized and have excellent attention to detail and thoroughness with accomplishing tasks from inception through completion in a multi-tasking environmental Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision, but will not hesitate to ask for more information from supervisors or peers so that task can be completed correctly Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English to a wide audience, including management and regulatory agencies Must be computer proficient including the use of Microsoft Office suite of applications for creating and modifying documents and accessing/using the internet Must be able to wear a respirator, use tools, drive a powered industrial truck, and lift up to 28 pounds Must be able move heavy objects with mechanical assistance Must have a valid driver’s license Desired Skills - include skills that would be nice to have and may be comparative if non-discriminatory: Experience in environmental/safety/industrial hygiene programs Ability to handle a fast-paced environment.

Education Required:
Job requires two-year degree in chemistry or its equivalent or Degree in Environmental, Occupational, Health & Safety or related discipline. HS Diploma or AA/AS degree(or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
